It pays to NOT go to the gym.
I went last night for the first time in about 6 months. It was ok, felt good to get my limbs moving.
According to their scales im half a stone lighter than I was when I last went!!

Material Girl--

Good for you. A slow, steady loss means those pounds will probably stay off.

Guess what I bought yesterday??
A Proform 850 Elliptical!
I went to the sporting goods store and tried out several and this is the one that had the most comfortable stride for me. I can just feel these love handles melting away...
Now to get my husband to put it together!

Why? It feels great. Low/no impact (I have bad knees), full body workout, cardio, aerobics, burns up fat, you don't have to f-o-c-u-s like when lifting weights or even doing reps with a simple routine...I remember in the movie 'The First Wives Club", Goldie Hawn's character was a boozehound but she worked out on a treadmill and said that it cleared her head and she was able to see things more clearly. I'm hoping that the elliptical puts me in that state too. Where I can think about other things, maybe more clearly, while working out.
I know it's just a line in a movie but it sure sounded like the answer to me.

Eoe--

Exercise means improved cardiovascular performance. Cardiovascular performance increases blood flow to the brain.

First you exercise into the flow....then you come down with a clearer view of the world.

eoe - do you notice a clearer ability to think after going for a walk? if so, it'll likely work on the elliptical as well.

I tried to use them but can't. Even though they are easier on my knees than stair climbers, which I can't use at all, they still bother me more than straight ahead walking does. I can use a bicycle, however. I have no explanation why a bicycle doesn't bother my knees but the elliptical does. It must somehow come closer to a climbing motion than the bike does.

i love elipticals, it's the best thing out there in the fitness world for me, as far as the machines go.
I have to kick into gear, now that I am settled back in Boston and within some work routine, all feasible excuses are exhausted. Diet # 647, here I come.

Cycling is not a weight bearing exercise. Walking and climbing are.

Mr B started a two-week SB Phase I yesterday, and I always eat better when he's eating better. I hope to see some improvement on the scale this week.

Good luck. I'm end-of-winter fretful and Mr. Noddy's health seems to have slipped a notch. Nibbles will not help in the long run, but I'm trying to forgo the short-term comfort.

Succeed and inspire me.

Noddy, winter will soon be spring, but Mr Noddy's condition unfortunately will continue to bring stress to your life. Are you still meditating? How's your blood pressure? Pounds will come and go (don't I know it) but other things have a greater impact.

I hope your dominion is holding.

I think blood pressure is up. The new blood pressure monitor is very tempermental, so I approach it with vigorous loathing.....and the readings (when I can get a reading) are high.

Twenty-eight more days of winter.

Wolfie, I have several friends who love Walk Away the Pounds for at-home workouts. I haven't tried it, but it's pretty popular.

Things are starting to look up. I have been using my bodybugg for around two weeks now and am starting to see some progress. The first week my body must have been really attached with my fat because it wasn't letting go of it even though I was at a calorie deficit every day. When I checked the scale today though I was down around 3.5 pounds. A little behind schedule, but in slow and steady wins this race so I'm not complaining.
