Any thoughts on how to prevent carpet slipping, rr? It's a bit of a fear of mine.

How about Velcro? You can cement one side of the Velcro to the concrete floor, and sew the other end to the carpet.

If you just put the Velcro around the edges of the carpet you can put a pad underneath the carpet in the center. Just a crazy idea…

I'm not sure how I'd attach velcro to cement, but heavy double-sided tape might be an idea. Thanks!

Well, I'm about 8 pounds lighter so far. Mostly water weight I'm sure. I haven't been drinking much water but I've been urinating like crazy. I think it's the diuretic in the bananas. I never used to eat those before.

Bummer is, I think my dieting triggered my gout attack! I haven't had a gout attack for almost a year and a half and suddenly I go on a diet, start eating all of the right things and exercising and I get a bad gout attack. It's kind of hard to exercise when you're on crutches. So the exercise will have to be put on hold for a few days. Hopefully that doesn't cause me to start gaining again. This old body just isn't as durable as it used to be. Rolling Eyes

On the other hand. Using crutches seems to be a good excercise work out too...

Talk to your Doctor about Allopurinal. I told you I've been down this street! Do drink lots of water.

Hamburger. That's good information. I definitely have it. The only other time I've had an attack this bad I did go to the doctor and he said it was all of the classic symptoms of gout. They didn't stick me with the needle though to take a sample of the tendon. I won't let them do it. But they gave me an anti-inflammatory drug last time and I forget what it's called. It was definitely brought on by my dieting this time around. If I recall correctly, I think I was on a diet the first time I had an attack a year and a half ago. Well, I'll mention it to the doc on Thursday.

Anemia and gout, not fun, best wishes to both of you.

I started working out today after a bit of a startle at my annual physical (no scale at home). Had a fantastic time, really happy about being goosed into finally starting this, something I've been meaning to do for way too long. The place I go has a bank of TV's in front of the treadmills/ elliptical trainers with closed captioning on all of 'em, a new experience for me. Time flew! 25 minutes of cardio (running, fast walking when the running became too much, then when I got to a manageable level running again), it all went way more smoothly than I expected.

Yay!

Yeah, I've definitely had the first-day "Oh this is so easy!!" and third-day "Owwwwwwww..." thing before...

Make me go back if that happens.

Very wise move! I didn't want to leave. There's plenty of things to do no matter what you are into. Right now Portland is the fastest growing city in the country. So traffic is a problem, but that's typical in any city. Portland is one of the friendliest cities for bike riders though. Tell me what they are interested in and I'll tell you what they'll like about Portland. I'm planning my vacation there in July. I went there with my sister last year and we couldn't fit all of the activities that we wanted to do into one week so we're going to finish it up this summer.

Only draw back is that housing is a little expensive and the cost of living is high! The job market is also slim so your friend would be better off if they could secure a job before the move. That Portland job market is the very reason I'm in Boise right now.

I hope your friend likes the rain. It doesn't rain as much as Seattle but it rains a lot there! I recall a couple of summers when we didn't have one single sunny day. But that's kind of rare.

Great mat reco, rr. I'll look for something like that up here. Much better idea than a rug/carpet.

ha! I need new holes punched in the belts I bought in NY in October. I'm at the pulled in tightest holes now!

Soz--

How do you feel this morning? I hate to admit it, but when I exercise I feel better both mentally and physically. Further, the Life of a Full Time Mother means dealing with events beyond your control with no short-term glory. Excercise helps frustration as well as being a part of the day devoted to you.

In honor of the snow I slipped on a pair of jeans I haven't worn for a few months. I had to roll up the pant legs--only one crease, but progress is progress.

hiya, seaglass. seems that all is well with your account now, hooray.
winter is just a bad time for dieting. or even for eating within some normal. i have self-preservation genes that order me to seek sugar and fat, seek out warm spots and burrow.

I recently read that February is the most difficult time to start a diet because serotonin levels are at a natural low and those who haven't started by January might have difficulty dieting when what we most naturally want to do in February is eat.
