I'm down 1.9 for the past seven days, the result of three very hard workouts Monday-Wednesday. Today I going to see two exhibits(Slavery in New York at the Historical Society and Darwin at the Mof Natural History.)

Got a new running jacket yesterday and, when my new running tights are returned with the laundry, I am going to put them on with my new running jacket and go slogging up the hills near the Cloisters.

Wow, nice compliment from Gogi. How many female boxers are there at your gym? It would be weird to be one of the only ones.

Two. Me and my convert (colleague I talked into joining). Oh, and the trainer's wife, but she runs the club, doesn't box anymore.

Congrats to all the losers and extra kudos to Dag for looking good in the ring.

I had mixed feelings about posting progress yesterday because I was afraid of jinxing myself. I'm not usually superstitious but I felt a twinge of uh-oh when I posted.

Yesterday afternoon I took my daughter shopping. I had promised her a lunch/shopping trip when she finished her final exams. She spotted a Taco Bell, KFC combo place and asked to stop there for lunch. I was thinking more along the lines of Subway where I could get a decent salad or one of their low-fat subs. I ended up ordering a southwester steak bowl and ate 1.5 of her boneless chicken wings in disgustingly nasty sauce. When we got home I checked the nutrition guides for both places and discovered my bowl was 700 cals and the bits of chicken were another 150. We don't need to mention the sodium involved.

Dinner was an apple and a handful of unsalted peanuts.

I had a major workout yesterday which helped a lot, but whatever possessed me to go to Taco Bell and KFC and actually order that crap I can't say. A moment of weakness and trying to enjoy my daughter's company, I guess.

Back in the saddle today and I'm not going to jinx myself with midweek posts anymore (or at least not until the next time  )

psst, george - you should get rid of the fat pants, if you haven't already.

This week's insulting tidbit from Slang City:

Quote:
Greetings from www.slangcity.com! 17

Slang of the Week: whale tail (noun)
the top of a woman's thong underwear, showing above her pants

These are the people who pointed out "muffin top".

I'm not sure if it's a result of sticking to my plan or extreme stress and lack of sleep (probably a combination of both) but regardless, I'm down 6 lbs from last Monday. Pretty good for a week one effort. The rest will be much slower, unless I stay awake for a few more nights fussing and fretting.

J_B-

Six pounds in one week? I'm sure some of the lost is "real". How is your blood pressure.

I may, just may, be down another pound (which would make three or
four pounds this month). Every time local reality turns a bit grim I climb on the exercycle and pedal loudly--this seems to help weight, if not blood pressure.

merrily staying on the plan. colleague throws logs under my feet (as in: let's have a chocolate fudge cake and hot chocolate!), but i just sit through sipping my black coffee and pretend that chocolate was wiped out of the surface of the planet like dinosaurs the last time.
training helps, my muscles are back. just have to stay on track next week - while i pack, move from vienna and fly back to boston. ugh. long week it will be.

Today's life lesson <I knew this, but had forgotten>

When you're not tall, and you lose weight - your tights end up waaaaay too long.

yes, they do that. then one shortens them and gains weight... then one is fat and has pants that are too short. life....so tough.

I now have to use both feet to squash an egg crate--both feet with a little stomp-stomp dance.

This is progress.

Sounds like we won't need to get tickets to Stomp for the next NYC get-together.

We'll get Frank to bring egg-crates to the Frying Pan Very Happy

hmmmmm tights here are simply slightly thick, textured pantyhose - usually worn with shortish skirts - I really don't think there's a way to alter them

<wondering what tights are, where Dag is>

Maybe more like leggings - made of sturdier stuff?

yes, that's what i thought you meant. without the footsies, and sturdier. that's tights, ainnit?

i haven't owned any for awhile now. but i am a proud owner of two new pairs of sweatpants (one had to be shortened)- somehow it seems the bigger they are, the thinner will i look. somehow it's always not quite so.

Yup, mac is right - seems that what you call tights is what we call leggings.

Forget Billy Blanks and Tae-bo.

I'm going with Noddy and her Stomp DVD.
