Thanks Slappy!
My understanding is that if you have a large amount to lose, your body will get rid of some of it pretty quickly,..it doesn't really want it there to begin with. It's those last 20 or so pounds that sometimes give ya trouble!
Oh yeah,..almost forgot,..my goal is 175-180lbs, 34" waist,..and I'm GONNA get there!!
And the hard part is keeping it off, I'm sure. I'm the exact opposite. If I'm not lifting and eating consistently, I turn into a white-Somalian within two months.
Gerry-way to go -good on you
You can be my gym buddy too.
My start weight two weeks ago at the start of my program was 230 lbs and I am also aiming for 180 lbs by the end of the year, I go to the gym 4 -5 days a week, so far keeping it up. As I work in th week the sessions have to be limited to around 45-50 mins, at weekends I aim for 2 hours on Saturday and last Sunday did 1 hour on the treadmill covering 6 miles in 54 minutes with warm down of 5-6 mins.
cjhsa, hiama - I set the elliptical trainer at a random program - so it varies from 0 to around 7 I think. When it is at a low level, I go really really fast (75-80) and slow down when it reaches higher levels. It is not too difficult to do 3 miles in 20 mins - even though I end up sweating like a pig. My trainer says that varying the pace/resistance does more good than doing it at a steady pace, so I even do my bike at a random program.
No gym yesterday, as I dressed up in all my finery to go for a stupendous dinner at a lebanese place.
Welcome Jerry !! we look fwd to you sweating with us !!
Gautam,
I love good food as well and good wine, that's one of the reasons I want to work out so I can continue to enjoy them without putting on weight. One of my favourite red wines comes from Lebanon-Chateau Musar
Welcome Jerry!
I did gym - bicycle, weights and elliptical trainer - for 50 minutes today - then walked fast for 25 minutes later.
I have read that the elliptical thing can be bad for knee and shoulder joints, Gautam - so be a bit careful - I have bad knees so I am hurting.
Way to go dlowan !!!
First time I heard that elliptical trainers are bad for knees and shoulder joints - I though that because of the non impact nature of the excercise, it is much better than running.
Even though I have good knees and shoulders (knock on wood) will have a chat abt it with Danny - and ask him to keep a close lookout for my joints
Well done wabbit, presumably with all that hopping you have very well defined back legs !
Gautam I feel that the elliptical is a bit unnatural, I have always run so it uses different muscles in different ways to running, I suppose its closest to skiing really.
Just an hour to go and I'm off to the gym again, weights and the treadmill I think, the rower is hard work and maybe I'll alternate weights and rower in future.
hiama, I agree - but as Danny says it uses far more muscle groups (both in upper and lower body) in a non impact way - providing an all around excercise in one shot.
Good luck with yr excericse today. I am off for some retail therapy today evening so doubt very much if I can go to the gym, and then off for 4 days for the easter weekend - so next gym session is going to be next week !
Gautam, Have a great time at Easter, I'll be your conscience when you get back
I got on the scales again today - I've obviously slipped back into bad habits (plus too much drinking) as I've put on a bit of the weight I lost...
I hope that's just day-to-day variation, but I'm going to be very careful over the weekend and do as much swimming as possible.
I'll also try to get a run in the countryside in - as I'll be visiting my parents outside London.
MUST TRY HARDER!!!
Go for it KP.
Just back froim the gym, got sidelined and as its a work day had to curtail the session, what there was, was high quality.
Got a lift to the gym
4 miles on treadmill in best to date 33 mins 33 secs-then 7 mins warm down-this was at 90%+effort not a good idea
Walked one mile homei n 15 mins
Have a great Easter everyone whatever you are doing
same to you - remember - no chocolate bunnies!
Went jogging for 25 mins, ouch my sinuses and ear. It is yet again miserably cold out there, dang it all. Hopped around in my room and lifted weights for another 50 mins, the length of CD. My shins don't get sore from jogging anymore, yippeee. Had a Seder feast yesterday though, so must be extra good for a few days, then Easter feast comes along. Yippee again.
There was early on this morning a glimpse of my adversary, I thought at first it was dlowan dressed up in a somber, darker suit, but as the day went on it became clear I was being stalked by a darker threat. I tried, I did try, I did, I did try try, there's no denying that I did try, to avoid any occasion wherein I might meet up with IT.
I did try.
I...
I was waiting in line at the Duane-Reade when the first of the dark, dark,
chocolate bunnies bit into me. I was soon subsumed, consumed, um....
it was defeat, total and abject....
==
I sit here in the darkness of my deskspace, a small smear of bunnyness on my upper lip, left side, just out of reach of my tongue. (I know it is there by the scent.)
I weight in next Thursday.
Joe
Latecomer.....
And I will not reveal my weight (sorry Guatam). But my goal is twenty pounds. That's all I'm asking for.
At almost six foot tall, I managed to get down to 142 pounds last year. I was given nothing but grief because everyone thought I looked like a skeleton.....so I gained a few pounds back.
I still fit into all of my 142 pound clothes, but I'm just not happy with my weight.
I'm not in it for the prize (!), but I'm in.
Will report back in soon.
Yes. A prize for the females. A date with me, Slappy Doo Hoo.
A night on the town, painting Bickford's red.
woohoo, i think i just lost 20 pounds, just from reading that!
