Welcome back, Dag. Good to hear you're not getting too far out of range during your trip. Here's to a healthy month ahead.

Dragon - I got down to 155 a few years ago (my high school weight). It seemed like a dream come true, but it was a constant struggle and, to tell the truth, I was too thin. I'm not in high school anymore and don't need to try to look like I am. When I think about it I probably wasn't eating very well in high school and my thinness was not exactly a healthy weight then either.

Kudos to George for a great recovery!

Yesterday was another ok day. Down another 0.5 lbs to 170.5. Bit by bit...

WOOT!!!! 169.0 this morning!!!

It won't last long. BBQ with all the wrong foods here today for friends and family, but the recovery will begin again tomorrow.

This is the thread where I typically journal my thoughts. I'm not sure why I journal them here, but I do, maybe because many of the politicos don't frequent here. It's so hard to imagine the despair and trauma on all the lives of the folks in the gulf coast area. I considered canceling today's bbq but decided to go ahead with it. Instead of canceling a preplanned holiday weekend fest, Mr B and I have decided to request a month-long leave of absence from our work duties and volunteer to spend a month, one of us at a time, in the gulf coast area to help in whatever way we can in the recovery. We'll wait a bit for the first response supporters to perform their duties, but by November or even later, there will be a need for continued disaster relief personnel. We hope to be part of that response.

Well, I have not weighed myself since my last post, but I'm feeling more comfortable.

I got put on BP meds a month or 2 ago, at first my BP went down really great, in the 135/70 range.

then, all of a sudden, my BP went back up to the 160/90's.

My dosage was increased, with no change.

I went to see her on Wed and was given a diuretic to take along with the other med.

Whew, my clothes were fitting better by the next day!
I literally can bend over to pick up something off the floor better!

My husband said to me, "yeah I didn't want to say anything, but all of a sudden in about a week, all of a sudden you started looking bigger, and I knew you weren't eating more.

So, as far a weight, maybe I'll wait another week to weigh myself, so it's not all water.

Basically, I've just been asking myself before I eat "are you hungry, or do you just want that"?

If it's the former, I eat what I'm hungry for, it not, I'll wait.

This is only the 3rd day I've taken the diuretic, but honestly, I havent seen my BP go down that much, if at all.

Does anyone know how long it takes for diuretics start to lower your BP?

J_B--

Way to go! 169!

I can't see that canceling your traditional Labor Day barbecue would help the hurricane victims. On the other hand, preparing to take time off work and head south will be considerable help.

Your post and plans lifted my spirits.

Hold your dominion.

Chai Tea--

The diuretic is not to lower your blood pressure. The diuretic is to get some of the excess fluid out of your system so your heart doesn't have to strain pumping it round and round.

Retaining fluid is a frequent side effect of blood pressure medication.

When you get rid of the extra fluid, your blood pressure may improve. If not, your doctor will suggest something else.

Well, the hurricane victims have been helping me. Every time I feel a pang of hunger I say to myself, "Yeah, you haven't had anything to eat in four hours, try four days - in the sun- on the roof of your crushed in house." I feel such shame for my fellow citizens, luckily J_B is here to restore my faith in humanity.

dragon49 made me laugh and spill my coffee.

I broke the 220 barrier this week. Weighting in at 219.1, that's nine weeks in a row of weight loss, 13 of the past 14 weeks have been losers with only vacation week showing an uptick. I've lost 16.3 pounds in those fourteen weeks.

Hi Noddy!

Joe(making sure the paperwork is handed in on time)Nation

Hiyya joe!!

I got to 4+ miles today. Shocked
I have been perfecting 2 for almost 2 weeks..
decided -screw it- and doubled my time this morning.
This weekend the marathon training is going to be up to 5miles so i have to catch up.

My hips gave me relief today and didnt stiffen up or pop on me wich was a great gift.
Mr Wolf is making tofu-tacos.. ( hehe) for breakfast and I am stretching out my legs and back on the couch.
Great work out, feel wonderful.
Have noticed a diffrence in how my clothes fit.
I might even wander into the bathroom and find the scale and see how it is going numerically... ;-)

shewolf--

In my experience exercise also improved emotional endurance. I'm a much more understanding person when I exercise regularly.

Why not try the scales--at least for a starting figure so you can remind yourself of your progress.

Joe--

Breaking the 220 is a real accomplishment and steadily losing weight over the summer is another. Are you still working out at the gym?

Another WTG to Joe!!! Your progress is inspiring.

Attagirls to Shewolf for hitting the pavement with diligence. The numbers on the scale are much less important than the comfort of your waistband.

170.5 this morning. Yesterday was higher, as expected, but another good week ahead should get me back on track.

Regarding my plans to volunteer, Thanks Noddy and Joe. Mr B and I talked about it again this morning. Talking the talk is easy. Hopefully by putting it out here in public and talking openly about it with our F&F, we will push ourselves to walk the walk when the time comes.

The day before I was put on the diuretics, I was 181. Weighed myself 2 days ago, lost 3 pounds of water, down to 178, no wonder I feel less bloated......

A dialysis paint loses about 5 kilos of fluid during a 4 hours treatment. That's 11 pounds every other day.

Thanks noddy, I knew the diuretic was simply to get rid of the excess baggage, I guess I'm just looking forward to getting my BP down.....
All my life it was around 120/65. This is not like me.

I've always been resistant to taking medications anyway, would prefer to let my body heal itself and all that.
So, to come to a point of not being able to "cure" something through diet, excercise, relaxation has done a mental number on me.

Plus, still haven't mentruated, I have to think that has something to do with the BP, hormones, bloat, all that stuff.

Also, I think some over the counter stuff I've had to use lately might be interacting with my BP, am going to talk to the pharmacist in a little bit.

Nice to have a long weekend to take care of little things around the house.

diuretics help the body to remove excess fluid.
This could be the #1 reason you are not having your period yet and may be the cause for future missed periods. Enjoy it. Laughing

ok, i have decided, new plan...will get up and walk dog in am (maybe a mile or two walking) cuz its easier to face a walk than a run...then running 30 min on treadmill when i get home - yes my fat butt has a treadmill at home - ugh. i need something, i am gonna start sucking the fat out myself soon!

Holiday weekends can do that to you, dragon. I gained 9 lbs the week before last, lost 8.5 of them last week, go figure.

That's why I need to weigh in every day. The data keeps me focused. The 'experts' don't recommend it, but I need to see the numbers to stay on track.

Easy on, easy off, if you jump on it quickly enough.
