someone slap my silly and tell me to get up off my butt and get out there.

congrats to all have been keeping up the exercising. george, i do run 2 miles about 3-4 times a week. i am hoping to get that up to 5-7 soon. i need to do something, i get rather disgusted when i look in the mirror. i was 172 again. so all in all, i have still lost 13 lbs, but i was 167 about 4 weeks ago and its upsetting me that i let myself gain 5lbs back. on days that i don't go running in the morning, i am going to try to bike ride with the mr. in the afternoon. hopefully that will get something going.

i do think maybe my shoes have something to be desired. i have had them now for about 3 or 4 years...yeah i know, time for some new kicks. but does any one know some good running shoes that won't break the bank? i mean somewhere around $50 maybe?

dragon--

I'm no expert on running shoes, but I'm afraid you might have to spend about $100 for a good, safe running shoe.

George--

Love public-spirited trenchermen. Did that poor little dogie come with his own potato patch?

J_B--

You are wonderful about cheering for everyone else. Let me hold your coat while you act on your good resolutions.

Let's declare September DoS--Donate to Slappy Month. Any number can play.

Not a hard thing to do.
Pay to join and you have motivation because noone wants to be suckered out of their money.
You will have a walking buddy ( holds up hand ) who really isnt as silly as she claims to be on the forum.
No, it isnt too hot at 7 in the morning . ;-)
If I told you how much I weighed, you wouldnt believe I was walking.

Reebok has a great line of walking / running shoes at stores like mervyns.
THey are usually 60 and less.

I need wide shoes (think duck feet) with lots of
cushioning so I buy Asics gel. I'm always on the
lookout for sales and outlet stores and I can
usually get close to the $50 mark.

If I'm wrong about the cost of running shoes, I'm delighted for dragon and for the rest of you.

At lunchtime I had to substitute a walk in my work clothes for a jog in shorts and t-shirt.
When I got to the locker room, I discovered I had forgotten to pack my running shorts.

Oh shewolf, thanks for the invitations, but honestly, I cannot take the heat. I'm really fair skinned and also, the humidity makes it hard for me to breath.

I love being outdoors, but during the Fall and Winter. I love going on the Greenbelt through the woods. When it cools down, I'll take you up on that.
It's great when it's about 40-45 degrees and you have to move along to get warmed up.

7AM I'm on my way to work anyway.

When I go home, I now get on my new eliptical machine, turn a floor fan right on me, drink ice tea and listen to NPR.

I like that so much better than the gym. At home I'll just wear any old thing (or not) Surprised and you know how exercise sometimes, well, works up your insides?
I can fart away, and the only thing I have to contend with is Kirk in the other room yelling "Whoa - Are you all right in there? I thought maybe a toad exploded"!!!!!

Let's try for Mid-October.

Noddy~
The range of prices for running shoes is pretty wide and three-digit price
tags are not uncommon. But these days, even the low end of the scale is
good, and would have been considered miraculous back when shin splints
forced me to trade up from my clearance-bin tennis shoes.

i know exactly what you mean.
The marathon group only meets on saturday mornings at 7.
the actual MARATHON isnt until feb.
but between now and then I have to walk on my own and build up my endurance.
I too love to walk through the green areas. I have not explored the green belt too much though??
My favorite park to walk in is off of slaughter east of manchaca. It is next to an apt complex.
Long 2 mile hike, but completely shaded with a small creek at the begining of the park.
>sigh< nature walk at its finest

Oh, you'd love the greenbelt then. There's 5 entrance ways that I can think of offhand.

The one across Cap. of Tx Highway, across from the Barton Creek Mall is the one I usually take.
You know how if you driving North on Mopac, and right after the exit for hwy 71 you drive over a bridge, high over the trees, and the next exit is for the mall?
That's the greenbelt down there.
From the other direction, the exit you take by the mall that's a big U-turn?
Where all the vehicles paralell park?
That's it.

There's also another entrance on the other side of Capital of Tx, at the bottom of the hill from Toys backwards R Us, down by those office buildings. That's an easier area.

I swear, once you get away from the highway, it's like another world.

You know how once in a while you hear on the news of someone getting raped on the greenbelt?
They aren't on the greenbelt, they're on the walking trail running through town, that's where someone will jump out and grab you from the bushes

I've always felt save on the greenbelt.
Rapists are opportunistic. They aren't going to say..."Hey, I know, I'm going to walk two or three miles out and hide behind this tree, waiting for some female, who is exercising so in pretty good shape, and I'll jump out and grab her."

You just keep your eyes open, and watch your surroundings. Whenever I pass a male, I make sure I make friendly but firm eye contact.

I know where you are talking about. The entrance headed to the mall. I have seen that one many times. I have pulled over one time and checked it out. It seemed really nice. There appeared to be a dry creek bed there as well?
I love to explore small creek beds. I love looking at stones , "reading" sediment layers and looking for small fossil trinkets.
But, that is the 5year old in me. :-)

Maybe when the weather is cooler we can go walk for a while. I would love a walking buddy who enjoys the nature style walks as well.

I have heard of the 'town lake' rapist. I never associated it with green belt though? And yeah, i agree, not many rapists will attack a woman who can run faster then they can, or bench press their weight . BUT that doesnt make anyone safe, just less of a target.

Thank you, Noddy. I feel much better today.

Bella, I gave away all my fat pants three years ago. Now I just have loose, comfortable, and uncomfortable. I also have a few things that are 'in my dreams' and 'happy days are here again'. Yesterday I was uncomfortable, today I'm comfortable after losing 4.5 lbs yesterday on day 1 of my two week detox.

Day 2 today, hoping to achieve loose by Friday.

It's here somewhere. It's easier for me to rewrite it than to try to find it. Gotta run now - I'll post or link it later.

Found it:

I can give you more details if you're interested.

I've had good luck with Saucony, but had to give up them when they went
to a narrower last.

Take a look at the New Balance line as well. The lower end of the line are
good shoes at a reasonable price. And they have widths!
