I lost another pound in NYC and while I'm a bit embarassed about all those greasy trails on the city sidewalks, tripping up the fantastic light people, I'm inspired.

Don't worry, dear, those greasy trails were mine. I'm the one who should have lost a pound in New York -- but I didn't. You did, even though you're light as a feather already. Life just ain't fair.

didn't weigh this am, too scared. however, i did make it out 2 miles of running with the bernster in 76 degrees with literally 90% humidity...i checked the weather channel cuz i was sweating away! hopefully gonna get back into the 6's this week-165 here i come.

have to go back to BP doc today. i know my BP isn't down even after 4 weeks of meds...so what do i get for no reduction in BP---peeing 4 times a night, right arm is swollen, runny nose, sore throat, oh and increased sweating...all side effects (don't worry about the swollen right arm, i swear i am not having a heart attack-it is just a side effect). gonna ask him to change it to something else...can't imagine he wouldn't considering my BP is still 150/100. sometimes i have to wonder...

Dragon--

My doctor is concerned about my blood pressure which spikes when I allow myself to dwell on That Which Cannot Be Changed.

I'm working on a Western Zen approach with controlled breathing, chanting/muttering and visualization and seem to be making some progress.

Will you join me on a thread to chart progress?

Thomas--

Style was not my only reason for picking those colorful, flowing garments. Under the drapery I'm apple shaped. My waist measures 36 1/2 " I start losing weight in my face and my ankles and the waist fat--the stuff packed around the liver, just in case I need it for a crisis situation--is the last to go.

Ten to fifteen pounds. Ten inches.

I'm glad you'll be with us on this thread.

is yours bad too? i had to go out and buy a monitor (doctor's orders). i don't think i am overly stressed at the moment, but maybe. you would think though that the drugs would have some effect on lowering it, but noooooo. of course i would join you on a thread to monitor our blood pressures. i think the scariest thing for me is that i am under 30 and have that high of BP. what to do? lost 10% of my body weight, and got bp from 170/110 to 150/100-progress i guess. maybe if i lose another 10% i will be 130/90? almost normal right? or if i hit my goal which is another 15% i might be normal? who knows at this point. good luck to us Smile

I have a friend who recently started the DASH diet at the recommendation of her dr because of her elevated bp. After 3 weeks her bp went from 150/110 to 120/92.

Here's a link:

http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/hbp/dash/new_dash.pdf

She's still on meds, but hopes to be able to get off them eventually. Here's a typical day on DASH:

bfast: slice of extra fiber ww toast and a slice of cheese OR a 2-egg cheese omelet, with fruit

lowfat yogurt and fruit (save half for mid afternoon)

lunch: a ww tortilla spread with light cream cheese, low fat lunch meat and a slice of cheese, tomatoes or cukes or both, fruit

lowfat yogurt and fruit in the afternoon

dinner: protein and veggies.

Grim weigh-in this morning--up from 125 to 128. I know I had an extra 800 calories yesterday, but 800 calories is not three pounds.

Sometimes life feels very unfair.

Fortunately today and tomorrow will be gardening weather; Mr. Noddy has a series of time-consuming, ego-boosting projects and I have a stack for trashy novels for evening reading.

CG ~ you got that right! Laughing

I haven't been weighing myself because I've been sitting around waiting for the go-ahead to start exercising again. I had a chiro visit yesterday, noting that my lower back is still tender, but the spasms stopped a couple days ago. He said I can start walking again, but to stay away from weights for another couple weeks.

I've been eating a lot of fresh fruit because everything is in season and readily available. I haven't paid much attention to what else I've been eating, although I haven't been over eating either.

I stepped on the scale this morning to get a baseline for restarting my walking routine. I was surprised to see 171 flash back at me. I was sure it would be higher.

Back to the club this morning for a walk on the treadmill for the first time in almost two weeks. I'm looking forward to it.

I know that one is never aware of high blood pressure--aka, the silent killer--but do you feel better now that your blood pressure is lower?

223.4 this morning. Seven weeks in a row of some loss, this week's being the smallest, -o.4 pounds. Ran Central Park three times this week, I don't know how far it is or really how long it takes me to do it. That's kind of a zen approach to running, isn't it?

Working on getting a better schedule for getting weight training in, it was all over the map this week.

Way to Go! Awards this week to CG and J_B and to Noddy for starting the thread on BP.

Way to GO!

Your detachment in time and space is either Zen or mental illness--or perhaps the inevitable detachment of creative genius. I'll vote for #3: psyche on simmer.

Hold your dominion.
