I have a friend who is sugar sensitive and literally goes hog-wild when she eats a bit of sugar. She became very depressed and finally began a sugar detox about a month ago. Following the detox, she began a low Glycemic Index food plan and has had tremendous success. It's so good to hear her uplifted tone these days.

{{{{Ay}}}}

How have you been feeling the past couple days? Is someone helping to take care of you?

-----
I'm doing pretty well this weekend. We have a picnic tonight along with community festivities and a large party tomorrow. I'm going to try to keep it sane food-wise. Tomorrow's party is a two hour drive each way and I'll be the designated driver for the return trip. That will keep me away from the bar and watching the pig rotate around on the spit will curb my appetite. We have one more gathering the following Friday night, and then my social calendar is blank for a few weeks.

Have a safe and healthy 4th of July to those of us here in the US.

I spent a rather self-indulgent holiday weekend.
Got to put my game face on today.

i spent the weekend in Austin, TX eating as much mexican food as possible. I have missed it dearly. Hence, i think i am back to a 7 in the middle. however, since they built that place on the sun, maybe it wont be as bad as i thought (it was over 102 every day we were there). oh well, back to the grindstone today. i have another 20lbs to go before i am happy! we can all do it.

JB, be careful that can be a sign of heart trouble. we found out my grandfather was in atrial fib because he gained 10lbs in 5 days and it was all water weight. please go see a doctor-i am worried!

my pain is gone, just a little left over lower back pain, which i attribute to pms. so back to the 2 mile run tomorrow, i think i may go earlier and start adding some ab work in the morning. we shall see how it goes.

I just weighed myself and I lost those 7 pounds, that I gained, that extra walk may have helped.

Ay's last post was on July 2. Her psyche is carrying a lot of extra weight right now.

Ay--

Hold your dominion.

J_B--

I mentioned to my weekend guest (a gal who works in bio/chem/pharmacutical worlds) that I tended to retain water weight after imbibing the grape. She said, "Oh, are you allergic to _____?"

The blank may have been histamines--or it might not. Evidently it is not an uncommon condition.

We've known each other for more than fifty years and while we don't see each other often, our chatter is prone to branching and detours....

Did you eschew the grape and sample the grain this weekend?

dragon--

Twenty pounds. You can do twenty pounds. Furthermore, the slower you lose the weight the more likely it is that the weight is banished forever.

Constitutional Girl--

Use the same scale to weigh yourself at the same time every day. A lot of people weigh stark naked so as to eliminate the variable of clothing.

Are you sure that you aren't retaining water? Have you talked to a doctor? Seven pounds of casual fluctuation is considerable fluctuation.

Slappy--

I am a Good Woman. If I were not a Good Woman I'd wish that the air conditioning would flicker and fail in your gym.

Anyone with an ambition to gain weight should go inspire chemotherapy patients.

Congratulations on your progress toward your individualistic goal.

I had a great weekend, was down to 174 and then we went to the party on Monday. I considered having one drink with vodka, but had a glass of red wine instead. 178 yesterday, so there you go!

I met with the nutritionist at my dr's office yesterday and she explained that people who eat lots of dairy (guilty), drink alcohol even moderately (guilty), and get lots of exercise (guilty) can devolop a sluggish liver and lymph system causing them to retain water and see an overall slowdown in metabolism (bingo!).

She recommended a two week 'flush' where I take lots of flax oil, cranberry juice, green leafy veggies, fruits and colored veggies, eggs, and lean proteins. No dairy, grains, artificial sweeteners, or alcohol during the next two weeks. I'm also to cut back on exercise to a 30 minute brisk (not fast) walk and simple toning exercises so I don't atrophy muscle, but nothing strenuous. After two weeks, I add whole grains back in, one at a time. Once I reach my goal weight (165 - 168) I can add dairy, limited alcohol and begin my normal workout routine.

She said it's possible/probable that I'll need to do the two week Phase I a couple times/year to keep my system flushed. I went shopping for all the 'stuff' yesterday and started today. 176.5 this morning...

Dragon, Good job on getting back on track.

George, Holidays are for enjoying, the week following is for recovery.

Ay, I hope you check in with us soon. Sending nurturing thoughts your way.

Noddy, Interesting about the allergic reaction to the wine. I'm not sure what the component might be, but it's certainly a possibility. I hope to join you in a vodka tonic in about a month.

Weigh in day, everyone!

173.5 today, down three from yesterday and 4.5 from Tuesday. More importantly, I'm down 1 to 1.5 lbs from my previous five Thursday checks.

Day one on the new diet went pretty well. I'm going to get pretty sick of salads over the next two weeks so I'll need to think up more ways to work leafy greens into my other meals. Dinner last night was a turkey cutlet with herbs and steamed kale and grated daikon, carrot and tomato salad. Lunch was steamed veggies and shrimp. Breakfast was two eggs on a bed of sauteed spinach and arugula, red peppers and onions. Cranwater throughout the day. Lemon juice and flax oil on the lunch and dinner.

Hope you all had a losing week.

<Sending healing thoughts to Deanna.>

Starting weight: 131

Today's weight: 125

Sitting in my dooryard I have at least 10 cubic yards left of a 12 cubic yard mulch pile. Working gracefully and doggedly, I can spread it myself--healthy exercise with immediately visible aesthetic benefits.

J_B--

You sound newly energized. Bloat is morale busting and if you can detour the bloat....

Personally, I find dieting a bit easier with a little monotony. The monotony helps me concentrate on finding other sensory experiences.

dragon--

This will be the week you break 170. Just co-operate with your optimism instead of sabotaging it.

171 today.
Played soccer at lunch so that burned up some serious calories.
Had some cookies yesterday evening. Got to be careful of that.
Don't want to slip back into bad habits.

well, i have decided (in order to keep my optimism going) that because it is my time of the month (confirming my low back pain was pms), i have gained three lbs leading to my 170 vs. 167 Smile

so i am optimistic that i will be back under 170 very shortly...

Good idea. You must believe for a successful diet. Inertia and despair are fattening and fatal.

You can do it, Dragon!!! Wear tight clothes to the baby shower and you'll be too uncomfortable to eat the cake

I'm at 171.5 this morning. Yahoo!

Yesterday I had eggs and spinach for breakfast, poached salmon with kale and daikon salad for lunch, steak, broccoli, cauliflower and carrots for dinner, two fruit snacks, lemon, flax oil, and cranwater throughout. 75 slow jumping jacks and a 20 minute walk.

This morning I made a berry/whey protein smoothie for breakfast. Lunch will be the leftover salmon and/or steak from yesterday with a spinach salad. Grilled turkey breast for dinner with a bunch of veggies on the side.

I'll be spending tonight and tomorrow at SIL's keeping vigil on her house, kids, and pets. It makes menu planning a little more difficult but it will be a good test for next week when I leave for a weeklong Church retreat. I'm trying to avoid lettuce salads this week because I'm planning on a bunch of them while I'm gone. The exercise component is easy. I can do jumping jacks anywhere and there's plenty of opportunity for walking and/or swimming.

Enjoy your Friday, everyone.

Hey
It's been awhile and the struggle continues. Still not comfortably back into my pre-weightgain wardrobe but I can wear a few things and that's cool. Still working out on the Total Body Trainer by jake and getting bored as hell but it's the simplest and most convenient. It really is a great piece of equipment. I need to do more now tho, need to lose some pounds, and I'm in negotiations with myself. I don't eat alot but I don't eat very healthy and that and my love of wine are my downfall. Toying with the idea of giving up the wine, just to see how it affects the weight, and/or adding additional sets to my workout. Doing both is out of the question but I need to commit to one of these options. Which would you pick? Confused

I'm about 170 myself right now.
