Bernard wouldnt budge this morning with the rain coming down, so no run. However, oddly enough, I am down from 180 to 175. hmmm...must be water weight cuz that is alot for one day. I have been very good on my psuedo atkins diet though. Eating cottage cheese, baked chicken, and salad-its the lowfat atkins! Not sure if i will get exercise in today. Its TGIF and there is a place here that has beach parties on Friday's after work. I know its no excuse, but at least i have been hanging in on the diet - haven't cheated at all Smile

That can be arranged. But for now...
Get that butt to the gym Missy! Yeah, you.
And lay off the the junk food. You don't need it.

Nothing succeeds like success.

You need some successes, no matter how small.
You need to feel a sense of accomplishment having achieved those
successes. That makes it easier to proceed on to more success.

Now there are many, many ways managing weight. No matter which one
you choose, it is certain that exercise is good and eating junk food is
bad. That is fundamental.

So if you get to the gym (or even exercise at home) THAT IS A
SUCCESS. If you avoid the junk food, THAT IS A SUCCESS. Something
you can -- and should -- take pride in.

These first victories may not show on the scale or in the way your clothes
fit. Yet. But they should matter to you. And if you build on these, the
results will become physically evident soon enough.

You go, girl.

Food intake for yesterday was good. We had homemade fajitas last night which I know is my downfall so I went light for the rest of the day to make up for it.

146 stairs up to work this morning. Chest and arms for weight resistance tonight at the gym and hopefully a solid 20 minutes of cardio as well.

J_B,

Good tips so far... good info for everybody. If you don't mind I'd like to add:

Make sure you are getting your fiber everyday. One good source is Fiber One cereal for breakfast. It tastes good, is low calorie (especially with skim or soy milk) and has a whoppping 14g of fiber.

Oh and Material girl... Put down the spoon and get your butt MOVING!!!!

Ahh, Il do some serious a*se whoopin'.

I still live with my parents. They are on holiday for a month soon so I feel like i can completely take control of life re food, excercising round the house, generally using the kitchen to make new food.

My mum has been on succesful diets over the years so I know its not a case of being given the wrong foods but if I have free reign, like living on my own for a month I feel like I can really get into a routine.

Dyd brought home some really, really wonderful cinnamon bread from a local bakery. He needs to eat fattening foods. I don't. I did. Damn.

It's a real trial living with skinny people. I have two teenagers who eat
the worst stuff imaginable and still look like beanpoles.

Life is unfair.

292 stairs more during the lunch hour... of course half of those are going down which makes it much easier.

By the end of June I should be able to sprint up those suckers... i hope.

George--

Fair? Fair? Life isn't fair. After a certain age, "You eat it? You wear it."

jp--

Several years ago the local newspaper ran an article on the Mighty Hunters who prepared for hunting season on stair steppers. They were magnificent at going up hills, but their muscles screamed in protest on the downsides of the mountain.

I don't want to go cycle--but I'm going to.

You folks may have been TOO inspiring.
Yesterday's jog was at times an actual run.
I put some extra oomph into today's shoulder rehab and followed it with a 10-minute jog.
I need a nap.

It sounds like things are happnin' all around.

MG- I really liked what George wrote to you. You can do it. Get one good day under your belt and the next one comes easier. Get a full week under your belt and the next one comes easier. It doesn't take long before eating well is second nature and the junk food is a treat, not your normal diet.

JP - I can climb most mountains, but my knees start screaming about 1/4 of the way down. The last time I trekked up Camel's Hump in Vt, I told myself I was old enough to never have to do that again. It wasn't the going up that got me, it was the return trip.

Keep adding tips - they're good information for everyone.

I did my leg exercises but missed my walk this morning. I'm heading out now before I eat my afternoon snack of whole wheat pita and hummus.

Day 3

171, down 0.5

I'll take it! I'll take any loss, but I consider it a huge success when I get a loss over a weekend. Two more days on my quick-start plan before switching over to 1400 cals/day.

Dinner last night was fresh walleye, poached in white wine, shallots, lemon peel, and tarragon. It was delicious, as was the grilled asparagus I served with it. The best part was what I didn't have - a glass of wine. Mr B and I typically share a bottle of wine on Friday nights to celebrate the end of the week. Last night I was tempted to pour myself a glass of pinot grigio when I opened the bottle to make the poaching liquid. I put it back in the fridge and it's still there, missing only the 1 cup I poured in the pan.

Today's plans include a workout at the club with Mr B, some digging and planting in the garden, and keeping my fingers out of the goodies at the Affirmation dinner tonight at church. My small kitchen garden is overflowing with greens so I plan on making a large salad for lunch.

TIP OF THE DAY: Drink plenty of water, but not necessarily with meals. Most plans recommend drinking 5 - 10 8oz glasses of water/day. If you drink most of that water between meals you will feel full and you won't be diluting the effectiveness of the digestion process by drinking large amounts of water with your food. A good way to get water during meals is to include at least one 'high-volume food' at each meal. Good examples of high-volume foods are fresh fruits and vegetables or broth based soups. Consider having fresh fruit for dessert. It will satisfy your thirst, provide some natural sugars, and help you feel full longer. Also, consider a first course of soup. Studies have shown that a broth based soup used as a first course will help fill you up faster and you are less likely to want a second serving of the main course. Bottom line-- drink plenty of water during exercise and between meals but sip on it during meals.

Been doing pretty well, although my weight has not budged in the last couple of days. One of the upsides of shutting my fat face, is that I am feeling much, much cooler. I actually went to an outdoor mall in a pair of pedal pushers (It's in the high 80s here,) and I wasn't roasting.

I think my problem is that I am so involved with my mother now, that I have not been able to get to the gym. Was going to go this morning, but now a nurse is doing an intake at her ALF, so I will have to be there!

Phoenix--

Routine is such a great help on any diet. I admire you for continuing to hold your own under maternal stress.

Amazing how fat provides insulation--even when insulation is uncalled for and uncomfortable.

++++

I've lost another pound--129, now. I seem to be loosing a pound every three or four days which means by the end of July or early August I should have made my goal.

J_B--

Did you hold your own through the weekend?
