today i started the day with a 2 mile run with the pooch. After i order some new legs online, i will be doing a leg workout tonight. I am trying to eat lots of protein, but still low fat (not a true atkins diet -kinda the healthier version without the bacon, sausage, etc). Again...

Starting Weight: 190 - blah
current Weight: 180
Goal Weight: 145 - would like to lose more than the 10lbs by end of june, but we shall see!!!

175 lbs.
Goal for the finish line:
165 lbs.

Plan for today:
Avoid the pastries at today's meeting.
Four mile jog at lunchtime.
Lay off the cookies and snack stuff this evening.

J-B--

You sound determined--and organized.

dragon--

I'm impressed with that early run.

George--

You know yourself--as in the pitfalls of the pastry tray.

This morning I weighed 131--but that pound is due to come off in a day or so.

Six weeks goal: 120

Eventual goal: 110.

I've set out a delicious assortment of low calorie munchies: kumquats, cherry tomatoes, pickles, pickled cauliflower, pickle mushrooms, watermelon chunks....

I've done half my exercises.

The kitchen timer is on the computer table. Every 30 minutes I must get up and M-O-V-E for at least five minutes.

I'm back on my APEX plan... which is a lot like J-B's.

5 small meals a day to keep your metabolism burning all day long. They range from 300 - 400 calories a meal (around 1800 calories per day). Gym Monday, Wednesday and Friday for resistance training with cardio activity on the other days. Take the stairs instead of the elevator (7 floors) at work. No more morning mochas... which will be the most difficult.

p.s.

It takes 3,500 calories to equal one pound of body weight.

6 weeks = 42 days
10 pounds = 35,000 calories
35,000 calories / 42 days = 833 calorie deficit per day you need to burn in order to reach the goal of 10 pounds.

When you think about it that is like cutting out your morning latte and muffin or skipping seconds at dinner time. It just takes a little bit of will power.

WE can DO IT!!! In the past i have just been unbelievably unmotivated!! But the dog is used to getting up and going for a walk now so he nudges me out of bed. that and we started running this morning instead of walking. jpin...thanks so much, that calculation puts it in perspective!

It sounds like we're all charged and ready to LOSE.

Phoenix - I hope you feel better soon. WTG on the -1 from yesterday!

Dragon - Your dog will get used to running and keep you on track!

George - Have a great run - the pastries will only slow you down.

Noddy - Your snack list sounds yummy and your timer plan is great.

JPin - You'll only crave your mochas for a few days. The first week is always the hardest. I'm a numbers person so thanks for the calcs. I'd like to add that the 833 cals can be reduced by a combination of burning through exercise and by reduction in caloric intake. It's a pretty good mix to burn 300 - 400 cals per day and reduce intake by 500.

For those who get carb cravings at night. Try substituting a piece of cheese or other protein such as peanut butter on apple slices. The protein will help alleviate the sugar cravings which is what your body is screaming for when it sends you to the cookie jar.

Great start everyone!!!!

Would it be presumptuous of me to join the 10, 9, 8 club after being in Europe, having gained weight before the trip and having continued to gain after the trip? Heaven help this old agnostic, I can't seem to lay off the sweets...and bread...and peanut butter. Arrgh.

While in London, Clary and I considered the possiblity of starting a weight loss thread for those who never seem to lose weight. She had the idea and I quickly agreed that it might be less demoralizing for those of us who have been less than successful in our quest for a more svelte look.

Noddy, I loved the fat French women cartoon. It gave me some sly pleasure to think of such a thing.

You have your choice of declaring your starting weight or posting what
Dagmaraka calls "incremental losses". (We probably won't be doing
nekkid "before & after" photos.)

I'd let you rip out my fingernails, slowly, before telling you my weight!

Incremental is much more humane, as far as I'm concerned.

Hee.

I once had a weight loss contest with a lady friend.
She would give her weight only as one-umpty-<something>.

The prize was that the loser had to take the winner out for a lobster
dinner. At the end of the meal the winner was to tell the waiter "Give the
check to my Fat Friend".

I won, but never uttered that statement.
(She could stay awake longer than I could.)

It sounds like everyone has great plans on how to make this work for them.
Good stuff.
Noddy, I wish my husband would get up and move every thirty minutes! He has a desk job and he sits still far too long Sad At least he rides his bike to and from work; that has to be good for him.
You all sound so organized! I don't really diet. I don't eat much as it is Razz I am vegan so I think I make a lot of healthy food choices right off the top. I am allergic to peanut butter which used to be my downfall Wink Don't do dairy...can't eat regular bread which means I have to make my own spelt bread and that takes forever!

We have a few runners in here Smile Wonder how far our combined running would get us? I _am_ going to take my running out of doors and off the treadmill! (I just need to remember to carry a fifty cent piece in case I get in trouble)

Have a good day everyone and watch out for the sugar monsters that lurk in most inconspicuous places just waiting to pounce...

Plan for today?
Heaps of labour intensive housework
10 km bike ride to Mater's Children's hospital for volunteer work
May hit the gym when I get home from there
Definitely have a soak in the jacuzzi this afternoon
Eat sensibly; lots of fresh vegetables, a couple pieces of fruit, a few handfuls of my nut mix and drink heaps of water Smile

well i am off to the gym to do lunges and squats. i was told that if you make your large muscles (ie - thighs) stronger, you burn fat faster. guess i will try. hopefully, the morning run with my dog wont get rained out, we are supposed to get big thunderstorms and bernard (my dog) is afraid of them and won't move from his bed when it thunders.

Day 2

Weight 130--down ounces rather than a pound, but some scales are more detailed than others.

The weather here seems a bit grim for outdoor exercise--still there is the exercycle and all manner of dust to pursue.

Hold your dominions.

171.5

I did well with food yesterday and, after losing 8 lbs in 3 days, I'm not surprised to see the same #s on the scale today.

Today's exercise is inner and outer thighs along with a 2 mile walk with speed intervals. Salad with ham/turkey/swiss for lunch, fresh walleye for dinner tonight.

Welcome, Diane. It's good to see some more bandwagon jumping.

The weekend is always tougher for me, so I'll try to stay diligent for the next three days. I've been in the '70s' since early December and I would love to see 169 next week sometime.

TIP OF THE DAY: Skip the juice, eat the fruit. Fresh fruit is an excellent source of vitamin C, it's full of antioxidants and fiber, and a natural source of sugars. The juice on the other hand has been processed, packaged, and stored so many of the benefits are no longer available. The juice is also a source of concentrated sugars which can cause a spike in glucose levels triggering carb cravings. One exception is tomato juice which is a great source of lycopene, along with vitamin C, and fiber and counts as a serving of veggies. I use the low-sodium V8 daily to wash down my multi-V.
