i did no exercise over the weekend unless you call the 18 holes of golf yesterday exercise. i couldn't pass it up being 75 and sunny. Anyway though, amazingly (i guess it is the low fat, high protein diet), i have lost 7 lbs - down to 173! the Bernster and I went for our morning run this am, so I am back at it! the jumpstart has me excited! Thanks for all the support guys-all weekend when that cookie dough or cake batter ice cream looked good, i thought, what will i tell everyone at a2K?
keep it up everyone, we are gonna make it!!!
didn't do so bad during my vacation in cali. went running three times, biked once into the hills, went to the little gym my sister's apartment complex has once, and on friday we walked miles and miles around the six flags marine world. yesterday, home already, i spent two hours in the gym. feeling buff, yet the scale is still not budging. it will this week, i'm sure of it.
I went mountain biking yesterday for the first time this year.
Weight lifting does not = being in shape cardio-wise. My body is a hoax.
Good Monday morning all!
I'm at 171 today, so YES!!!! I maintained my loss through the weekend. I was actually at 170 yesterday and then did my typical end of week - oh what the hell - food fest last night. Still, I'm down 8.5 from last Monday and 0.5 from Thursday so I'm very much motivated to keep going.
WTG Noddy on getting into the '20s. One pound every 3 to 4 days is perfect for long term weight loss and being able to keep it off.
Welcome back Dag. The scale will certainly reward you this week.
Dragon - What can I say? A 7 pound quick-start is fabulous.
Phoenix - best wishes to your mother. It's hard to stay out of the pantry when you have an emotional roller-coaster keeping you stressed.
Ay - Keep at it. The scale will respond with time. And being fit is really what it's all about anyway.
Slappy - Your body isn't a hoax, you've just discovered a part of it that your weight training hasn't been focused on as much. 15 -20 mins of cardio on the days you don't lift (or even on the days you do, if you have time) will take care of that other muscle.
TIP OF THE DAY: Establish mini-goals to help you stay motivated as you work toward your main goal. Then, put the main goal out of your mind and focus on the mini goal. If you want to lose a significant amount of weight you might set 10% of your starting weight as your mini goal. If you want to lose 15 lbs you might set 8 lbs as the mini goal. Reward yourself when you reach your mini goal by giving yourself a non-food treat. My mini-goal is to get out of the 170s and stay there for good. Once I've gotten down to 168 I will treat myself to an afternoon at the Botanic Gardens (or at the beach, depending on how long it takes me to get there) to enjoy some time to myself in a setting I enjoy the most.
Hope we hear from the rest of the A2K losers soon.
Slaps, where'd you go?
I did a weight check this AM.
I GAINED A !@#$%^&*ING POUND!!!
OK, that's it. Now I'm mad.
I hear ya George!
It is muscle right? That is what I am telling myself
dragon--
Seven pounds? I'm jealous--also motivated, but jealousy reigns.
dag--
Your idea of "a little exercise" is daunting.
Slappy--
Real live vs. the gym? Real life is always disillusioning.
Ay S--
Your day will come.
My scales show such small, small gaps between the pound markings--all that effort for a itsy-bitsy bit of an inch?
This morning I went through the pantry closet and picked out ten pounds worth of canned goods. Eight pounds are in one plastic bag and two pounds are in another. A pound of canned pineapple is much more graphic than the itsy-bitsy bits.
Fortunately my kitchen is laid out so that I can stash my motivational bags where they are visible--but not in the way.
(Now a Good Woman would exercise with that 10 pound bag....)
Oh Noddy, you are a good woman! I've been thinking of using cans as weights, now you've given me an incentivel
JB, thanks for the good advice. Even when I've heard things before, it helps to be reminded.
After a tough start, I've finally gotten serious and have lost two pounds. Funny how I can really feel it. I told Dys to go to the coffee shop for donuts instead of bringing that glorious cinnamon bread home. He does that quite often anyway so it isn't and inconvenience for him.
You all sound as if you're on your way. Good luck to all for the rest of the week.

I am not too concerned about the weight loss on the scale; I am happy knowing I get to the gym daily and that I make every effort to eat well.
And funny that you mention working out with a ten pound bag...because I do not have a vehicle I often walk kilometres with a 10kg pack on my back! And let's not forget all those heavy groceries I carry home from the gym
Thanks for the encouragement Noddy...I hope all is going well for you.

Man if I could just drop seven pounds I would be happy! Might even be able to squeeze into those size 7/8's I have hanging in the closet!
Ah well, I will be happy to lose .5 a pound I reckon!
And yes, if we stick to it, we CAN do it
Good job Dragon.
Diane--
Glad to be useful. Fortunately for dieters the heat of the summer is starting. Heat--even dry heat--depresses my appetite.
Ay S--
Thanks for reminding me that a few pounds can make a difference in the wardrobe line. Those itty-bitty marks on the scale....
exercised in the morning - some 45 minutes of intense hopping around to music. now THAT is cardio, i nearly died. had fat free soup for lunch, salad with turkey breast later, but then, since it's a monday, a sounding night, succumbed to a brazilian feast. stayed away from rice and desert, so it was mostly beef and chicken and salad, but still. my resolve got a serious blow. it was wounded, but not killed. tomorrow is another day. if only i could bike everywhere, but it's nasty outside and it will be for the next 8 days!
<peek>
I should really get in on this 10 pound challenge. That's just the right amount of weight for me to lose.
Littlek--
All are welcome.
Thankee.
So, what do I do?
I think we started talking about in on page 220.
We started last Thursday, trying to lose 10 lbs by June 30th. I'll try to find the post that described it....
J_B - I meant how do I lose the weight (excersize/diet) I was just being silly.
Ok, start weight: 149 lbs (Yikes! Really?).
you go biking with the slovak. let's hope there will be a few hours of sunshine this weekend. it ain't in the forecast, but you never know.
