@P E Dant,
Q: If a leopard could change its spots, what would it choose instead?

A: It seems strange that a leopard would be called "spotted" since it desires the opposite, to be not spotted and to blend in with the background by utilizing a sort of background mimicry in order to sneak up on its prey. I suppose that if a leopard could change it spots, it would prefer an even more realistic background mimicry.

@Glennn,
Glennn - Q: Why is the K silent in the word knife?

A: Originally it WAS pronounced, but when KN replaced CN in the language, it was made silent... this was so people with a knife could sneak up on people without a knife, and take their money! These events were the origin of the saying 'Silence Is Golden'

A: They remember what happened the last time they ate a mouse! Them trichobezoars are a part of a cat's life, but them claws! Them claws rip and tear going in and rip and tear coming out!

A: Did you mean fissure coluber? If so, it refers to what is known colloquially as 'the bum crack', or 'builder's crack' (see link)... the religious aspect would come into play if the builder's underpants were holey

@P E Dant,
Q: Why is the height of a horse measured in 'hands'? - horse's don't have hands.

A: But people have hands and feet, and lacking other devices, hands and feet became convenient tools for measuring. Although the hand and foot is not a standard length, it's better than nothing, I guess. I've used the length of my stride to roughly measure distances. 900 steps would equal 2,700 feet, a little over half a mile.

@coluber2001,
coluber - Q: Other than for competition, what is the usefulness of pole vaulting?

A: Pole vaulting is often used by people who live in towers but have forgotten their door key - it can also be used by people who are afraid of ladders but need to get up on the roof of their house (before you ask - they descend via the chimney; should the house have no chimney they slide down the pole in a manner similar to firefighters)

@P E Dant,
😊

Q: Why are motor cars called 'automobiles'?

A: I think the cars themselves had something to do with it. They felt that, in the future, they wouldn't need people to drive them. They presaged that the people eventually would become superfluous and would only become useful as servants to help build, repair, and feed them.

@coluber2001,
coluber - Q: Why do dogs chase cats?

A: This is a question that has plagued philosophers for centuries; we put the poser to the boffins at 'Dant Philosophy' and they have come up with a perfect answer! It all comes down to mathematics, specifically percentages! What are the odds of a dog catching its own tail? NIL! Zero percent! O%! It is physically impossible! BUT (and we agree it is a big BUT), there is the possibility of a dog actually CATCHING a cat! This information is passed down from dog to dog and they live in hope!
