I haven't heard more than 1 mention about foundation and powder.
It doesn't need to be troweled on, but it sure evens out the skin tone.
I'm very fair and look washed out and too plain without.
I use L'oreal foundation, the palest or next to palest they make, so it's not like I'm trying to change my color.
Not too much, you need to just dot around your face, and smooth out.
Then, you take LOOSE powder of the same tone, tap a big makeup brush on the surface of the powder, tap the brush on a few places on your face (forhead, nose, chin, cheeks) and then, just brush it all down lightly, just so your face has a VERY light soft look.
That way, it doesn't even feel like there is anything on your face. I couldn't stand the feeling of having "stuff" on my face.
I picture my face as a canvas, and the foundation/powder as the base coat.
NEVER USE loose powder that has talc in it, that's what makes you orange and clumpy.
This part takes literally 1 minute, mascara about two, blush and eyebrows another 2.
I've never looked over made up. There's no stark line where it begins and ends, or red streaks of blush.
Subtle doesn't mean hardly wearing any make up to me, it means doing it in such a way that people see you as looking refreshed and natural, rather than splotchy and tired.
For me, just mascara and blush alone wouldn't cut it. Actually I think that would look more like I'm wearing makeup as it would stand out on the undone skin.
Makeup isn't a lie covering up your looks, it a enhancer to show the world your best features
