No. I just think I look better so I feel better and that's why I wear makeup. I've gone to the store wihout makeup before.
i thinkI do get treated diffrently when I have make up on vs when I dont.
I am not a heavy make up user. I use just enough to compliment natural face colors, emphasize where I need it.. but it DOES give me a diffrent responce from men and women.
Maybe I am just completely oblivious all the time.
no.
For some people, the hint of makeup makes the more comfortable with looking the person in the eye.
It gives a more complete , familiar feeling to that person.
Example-
People with mohawks and gree/yellow hair.
People dont often look them in the eyes, hardly acknowledge them because they are not comfortable NOR familiar. It is an oddity and people avoid oddities. Not to be rude.. but they just do.
Makeup has become such a HUGE practice in our society today that being with out it is almost an oddity its self.
People avoid what is strange.... diffrent and accept comfortable 'norms'
make sense?
I'm wondering if it's a bit of a cultural thing. Most women I work with don't wear make-up - or if they do, it's lipgloss and maybe mascara. The one woman who wears make-up regularly is a bit of an oddity to most of us.
It's considered a bit declasse to wear noticeable makeup as a professional woman here.
We do tend to have manicures and pedicures fairly regularly though.

I've noticed that with a few very noticeable exceptions, American women I meet tend to be more made-up. Or at least, more noticeably made up.
That works with my observations, Beth..

a bit too much? declasse?
As I mumbled before about eyeshadow going in and out of style, a lot of style choice, including on your face, is a cultural matter, and culture has various pockets even within one community. And personal needs to have your face readable and attractive to others vary from person to person, and even with one person, vary over time.
very true.
The ' bar crowd" will be dressed and made up diffrently then ,. lets say the dinner crowd .
The people who live in large homes with just as large incomes will be dressed and made up diffrently then the city bus driver and her neighbors.
you would think by now with all the mixing of cultures that this simple thing wouldnt stand out as much as it does.
I have to say that I agree more with flushd and ehBeth than the rest of the women here. For me, I see makeup as a lie. I am so much a 'natural woman' type that to wear makeup out and about is false.
It appears that littlek is a Canajun business woman underneath it all
oh, shoot, did I offend you Osso? As I said above, I see things differently for older women, I don't know why.
Ok, let me try to dig myself out.....
I don't like myself tanned. Well, I don't like my face tanned. I feel monochromatic. I have dark blond/light brown hair, and blue eyes. I am lucky to have dark brows and semi dark lashes. My sister, however, has blond lashes and brows and lighter hair. She looks better with some eye makeup. I don't. I feel like it's a lie for ME to wear makeup.
No, you didn't offend me, you forgot me.. I essentially agreed with you and beth. I wear lipstick a few times a week, when I remember it, and some cover up once in a while, say for an art opening. I went on and on about natural california girls...
Oh oh oh! Well, then...... all the better. I agree with Osso too!
I bought some "Liquid Lip" last weekend. Thought I'd give it a try. Who knew lip gloss could be so tricky. I ended up having to walk all the way to the subway with my mouth open so that my lips wouldn't touch.
I'm going back to my Bonne Bell Dr. Pepper lip gloss. I've figured that out after 35 years.
I feel like I look like I'm drooling if I wear lip gloss. I was thinking about this thread last night. I want lip stain. A color that stains the lips a little, but doesn't feel waxy. And that doesn't smudge or wear off like lipstick.
