@edgarblythe,
Yes, you did neglect to mention that very important detail. Tsk tsk. Had someone been murdered on that couch and they had to dispose of it? Did you notice any dried blood or stab marks or bullet holes? That could have been a crime scene, for Pete's sake!

@Mame,
I took a close look before it burned. Somebody had left a cover of some kind on the other side of it. I would have noticed when I put that on the couch. I was holding out on moving the couch in hope I could charge about $50 to put it in the dumpster where I once worked. (They don't mind, but I always ask anyway)

@edgarblythe,
I think my scenario is more plausible (not to mention interesting and intriguing). Imagine - a murder on your street. One of your nasty neighbours did in another one and burnt it to cover the evidence. You could get one of those thugs put away for life!

Drug deal gone sour? Someone slept with someone else's tart? Drunken brawl out of control?

@Mame,
That's beautiful. But I don't see it happening.

We've had deaths here other than Coronavirus. Not that many years ago a woman burned to death because there are no fire hydrants in the neighborhood. The time a tornado came up the street a tree crushed a home and its occupant. The excitement is nonstop.

That's what I'm saying... you have oodles of opportunities for stories. You could be the next Stephen King or James Patterson Smile

It's just not the kind of stories I know how to make into a good book.

I sent an email message to the Tomball health department. I know one landowner whom I despise. I hope he turns out to have the property in question.

@edgarblythe,
Four hours later that entire mobile home is gone. They came in with a police escort and within half an hour the house was on the street, ready to move. Shows how easily a repo could be done. They just took it out of the neighborhood. There is somebody there now with a relatively small trailer. He must be looking for useful items before the cleanup begins. What has me totally flabbergasted is that there are homes much closer to there than mine but I had to report it.

Why are you surprised at the apathy given what you've told us about your neighbours? I wouldn't expect any of them to lift a finger. I'm flabbergasted that you're flabbergasted Smile

After watching it unfold I realized the owner was likely planning this move but procrastinating. My message gave him a kick in the ass to get it done.

Well, the Power Ball is back to a measly $20 millions again. Next time it gets to half a billion, I may buy a ticket.

@Mame,
One of those people turned the police on them in the raid, for which I get all the blame.

Coming back from the park, I noted that the street is almost spotless where I've been picking up. Somebody has been inspired to take up the burden, looks like. I plan to clean around the mail boxes but to not even walk the rest of it. Good deal.

@edgarblythe,
But the wall of bricks behind the mailboxes was way overgrown, so I cut away the brush.

After they moved the mobile home off of the lot a trailer was parked near the long section of fallen fence. The trailer was loaded with fence boards and left to sit untended. Saturday night at midnight it sounded as though somebody was working over there. Next morning the trailer was gone. I have no idea if it was stolen or taken by the owner.

@edgarblythe,
You need a camera on your house Smile More mystery for the story, edgar! The Case of the Missing Trailer starring Perry Mason.

@Mame,
I would need to then train spotlights over there because it gets extremely dark between all these trees.

Went grocery shopping. Card declined. Luckily my wife has cards too. She paid. My card was declined because it expired. Rolling Eyes
