@izzythepush,
I do like the occasional British comedy. My poor hearing keeps me from understanding the dialog on most of them.

The Brits have some wonderful actors, most of whom I could not name even if you threatened to make me watch That 70s Show or Two Broke Girls.

@farmerman,
What a nasty thing to say, if you didn't watch nothing but American programming for 99% of the time you might be able to understand someone from out of town.

@izzythepush,
Actually, some of the accents are hard to follow (e.g. Geordie) and when you combine that with your slang expressions, it's no wonder some of us have a hard time with a few actors. Not everyone enunciates well. It's not a slur on Brits - it's the way it is. I have no understanding of Aussie slang, either, and why would or should I? I find some of their conversations incomprehensible Smile

Newfies here have quite a bit of their own language and accent which are often puzzling to the rest of us.

@Mame,
The Geordie accent is dufficult, but FM had a go at all our comedies, all of them.

Speaking just for myself, there are American shows I watch without understanding much dialog. I watch Bob Hearts Abishola weekly, almost without fail, without understand a whole dozen words. Not just the Nigerians speaking English and their language of Nigeria, but also the Americans. I continue to watch because I like the cast. I am curious to see where this melding of the two cultures takes them. Mostly to ridiculousness, perhaps. Still -

This evening I tuned in American Ninja Warriors. Been watching every season. Tonight it sucked so bad I had to turn it off.

@farmerman,
It isnt that I cannot unsrstand th phrass of Oz or UK neighborhoods. Its motly the lack of distinct "Sybbilltion". hen the hard consonents and"S"'s are not brought out, it difficult to unrstand. n nglish is hard, so is Peedee English spoken on thetial rivers of S Carolina.
You pick mot of it up by constant ttention.
I lov Vera and her posse, yet shes hard to pickup when shes in fulldudgeon with suspects.

The first time I heard Tom's voice I knew he would become a big star.

In a Vegasy-sort-of-way, Old Leather Lungs was on the top. He moved the needle for audiences.

@Ragman,
First time I heard Tom sing was when I went to a movie to see What's New Puddy Tat. I sort of zoned out during the last third of the movie, but I loved the song at the beginning.

@edgarblythe,
Makes me laugh how this shows how much times and styles have changed. I never owned or (now) downloaded his tunes but if he was on my radio I’d not shut it off either.

@edgarblythe,
Apropos on this subject of collecting, I have no Elvis records (as an example) but I still love some of his songs. I guess it is enough for me to listen to him through radio, download or streaming. However, I do own Roy Orbison, Smokey Robinson and Sam Cooke. Go figure. I guess I like them more or the music spoke to me more.

@Ragman,
I went through a phase of not wanting to hear Elvis, but now many of his songs are high among my favorites. Didn't care for his televised performances, but lots of studio songs.

I first noticed Johnny Depp on 21 Jump Street and liked him there. He went on to be a well loved star. Frankly, I still like him but don't much like his movies. Waiting for him to do something I want to see.
