Don't know who wrote it but I subscribe heartily:

“I asked an elderly man once what it was like to be old and to know the majority of his life was behind him. He told me that he has been the same age his entire life. He said the voice inside of his head had never aged. He has always just been the same boy. His mother's son. He had always wondered when he would grow up and be an old man. He said he watched his body age and his faculties dull but the person he is inside never got tired. Never aged. Never changed.
Our spirits are eternal. Our souls are forever. The next time you encounter an elderly person, look at them and know they are still a child, just as you are still a child and children will always need love, attention and purpose."

@BillW,
Yes, and probably start sending money to big business to make up for the terrible anxiety they experienced. Kind of a yearly bonus for all the fearful headaches they got trying to benefit themselves with outrageous price increases and lower quality goods.

Had lunch with my next to youngest daughter the other day. I probably have mentioned it was their intent to move to Maui. They don't make it easy for someone to do that. They encountered enough difficulties they now will move to Colorado. I think that state is beautiful for a visit. Never wanted to live there.

The disgusting property I have written about has somebody making a stab at clean-up - after a fashion. While quite a bit has been taken away, trash is still piled from the street edge all the way to where a back yard would normally begin. Yesterday they burned a small building-on-stilts. It was something suited for an elaborate deer blind perhaps. It somehow appeared there one night.By the time the fire department got a truck there it was already on the ground, leaving blackened stubs of poles in the ground. I'm pretty sure the owner was given a deadline of thirty days. That gives another week if true.

@edgarblythe,
They brought in a dumpster and already have it overfilled. Looks like there is two or three more dumpsters worth on the ground. I think they are leaving the piles by the street til last just to tease us.

As pictures and stories of the latest school shooting emerge online I have to look away, the same way I look away from pictures of the Holocaust, Cambodia, and millions of other unjustified vicious killings. It has all been etched in my mind from early childhood, this cruelty and sadistic continuance. It crushes one to dwell on a process the world at large seems to enjoy. There are those who would happily drive a tank over you and me and then laugh and celebrate. If we hapless masses don't learn and then overthrow a worldwide system such as we have we forever dishonor those innocent dead. Passive accomplices.

At the graduation event of a crowd of perhaps 3,000 I counted five masks. It is an arduous task for an old man to sit and watch as 800 names are slowly and precisely read in alphabetic order, but I enjoyed every minute of it. It is a monumental achievement; each one of them deserves their spot in the limelight. An achievement I never achieved.

@edgarblythe,
Considering all of the adventures/misadventures/dangers/turmoils you and our country has faced in the time since your were 18, you’ve accomplished a great deal. Surviving with sanity is no small feat.

@Ragman,
I managed to find some great authors to read, who helped me retain much of my sanity and guided me from going totally bad.

I changed the index on my blog so that all one has to do is tap a story title to read. Amazingly, within an hour I had over two hundred hits more than I had been averaging.

@edgarblythe,
Is there some way you can protect your work from being plagiarized? I have no business sense smarts, only some from a consumers point of view.

@glitterbag,
I haven't worried about plagiarists, since I'm not charging money. But you've reminded me of a writer who posted the other day that she went to great lengths to get a well designed cover and somebody ripped it off for their own book. I'm not sure what she plans to do about it, if anything.

PBS has rerun Keeping up Appearances for many years. Probably more than 20. It's a marvel to me that a person could watch so many rebroadcasts of any show. I just ran the channels and it's airing right now.

@edgarblythe,
It's not being rerun over here.

If you like that sort of thing, One Foot In The Grave is a lot better.
