I'll be glad when this mess with Covid-19 is over. Never in my lifetime have I seen anything so ridiculous. Life during the post-Covid-19 era sucks.

The U.S. and the rest of the world didn't carry on this bad when H1N1 broke out.

Yes there was a swine flu pandemic between 2009 and 2010.

@JGoldman10,
1. We aren't at a post Covid19 "life" yet. We aren't "post" Covid19.
2. We actually had effective leadership during H1N1. We had leaders who actually listened to Dr Fauci.

@bobsal u1553115,
Okay - life in the Covid-19 era sucks.

How come things weren't as bad during the swine flu pandemic as they are now? I don't recall anyone being required to wear masks. There was no "social distancing". Businesses and other public facilities were not on lockdown, or closed to the public, or had restricted hours of operation. There were no public curfews. Life went on as usual.

What does Dr. Fauci have to say about the Covid-19 crisis?

For Pete's sakes, stop it. A pandemic is an epidemic though not every epidemic is a pandemic. Show me anywhere I said anything at all that contradicts that.

I'm done with this: Covid10 is epidemic to the US as part of a Pandemic of Covid19 at loose in the world today. We are in Pandemic.

Parse that anyway you'd like.

Calling it 'pandemic' is more a way of sensationalizing it, like the way hurricanes are hyped up in the media to exploit hysteria.

Whether it's a pandemic or not, it's definitely an epidemic, so that is the safest term.

Pandemic sort of implies that a much larger percent of the total population would be suffering more severely (of the disease, not economic hardships, I mean).

So I don't think there's a reason to differentiate between 'epidemic' and 'pandemic' in terms of scope, because that would imply that an epidemic ceases to be an epidemic at some level, and it doesn't. Every widespread disease is an epidemic.

Obesity used to be epidemic and Idk if it still is. Smoking used to be epidemic the way alcohol use probably still is. You could call alcohol use a 'pandemic' social problem because it is so widespread, but that just emphasizes the vastness of scope; it's still basically just an epidemic social problem (do you realize the irony of saying, "just an epidemic?" That is what happens to the meaning of word 'epidemic' when you start using the word, 'pandemic' all the time. There's nothing minor about anything epidemic just because the word 'pandemic' sound bigger and/or more severe.

@JGoldman10,
I agree. This is a sucky way to live relieved by the fact this is what we do now to get to a better life. Think of how empty the highways will be when all those 'open' protesters who took Dr Judy start kicking off.

I'm sad they're going to die stupidly and needlessly but I will not let them take me with them. I'm staying quarantined, and wear a mask and gloves with sanitizer in my pocket until there is no second wave or the second wave finally sweeps over the Covid19 deniers and dies out.

@livinglava,
Calling it a Pandemic accurately describes what it is. Ignoring the bogey man is one thing, ignoring a pandemic which has taken 250,000 dead around the world in the last three months is stupid. Particularly since there is no definite way of treating past treating symptoms.

If you want to listen to Dr Judy and the worst happens, may I have dibs on your house? Not that I need a house, but if you go and you take your family with you there would be no sense letting the state have it.

@bobsal u1553115,
It's written in Psalm 24:1, "The Earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof; ..."

My pastor said the Lord is going to take back what is His.

I forgot exactly what else he said regarding the Covid-19 crisis but I recall he said the Lord is using the situation to humble a lot of people.

I'm not worried about the Covid-19 crisis. This mess is coming to an end soon.

We CHRISTIANS need to be praying more.

I am praying that the Lord will reveal the world's scientists and medical experts exactly how to isolate, contain and destroy the virus and how to concoct a cure and/or vaccine for those have already contracted the virus.

I'm going to pray that the Lord will heal those who have already contracted the virus and Save those people who are not Saved who have contracted it.

This is what my American Christian penpal had to say about the Covid-19 researcher who was killed:

"... The people who murdered him are Socialists who want Covid-19 to kill as many people as possible, especially the elderly and the disabled. They think the world is "overpopulated" (it isn't), and they want to cut the population. That's why they killed that guy. He not only had valuable research, but he may have known the truth about how it all started."

Think of the current health crisis and how it has changed the lives of people as part of what many Christians refer to as "Trials and tribulations" .

Yet, even in the darkest hour, the light will creep in. Focus there.

Find those special moments, the most precious ones and rejoice in them. Give thanks for still having your own health and pray for a patience to endure.

If 80% of Americans Wore Masks, COVID-19 Infections Would Plummet, New Study Says
https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/05/masks-covid-19-infections-would-plummet-new-study-says#intcid=recommendations_default-popular_5e9faa93-0655-422a-b0e7-0d5d77726b74_popular4-1

Japan and other Southeast Asian nations have done relatively well in comparison to the terrible way the Trump administration has done combating COVID19. This is another example of their success versus our failure.

It sounds too good to be true. But a compelling new study and computer model provide fresh evidence for a simple solution to help us emerge from this nightmarish lockdown. The formula? Always social distance in public and, most importantly, wear a mask. If you’re wondering whether to wear or not to wear, consider this. The day before yesterday, 21 people died of COVID-19 in Japan. In the United States, 2,129 died. Comparing overall death rates for the two countries offers an even starker point of comparison with total U.S. deaths now at a staggering 76,032 and Japan’s fatalities at 577. Japan’s population is about 38% of the U.S., but even adjusting for population, the Japanese death rate is a mere 2% of America’s.

It's not a guarantee but the evidence points out, in the whole scheme of things, masks work and could and still can be a great tool in defeating the virus.

This comes despite Japan having no lockdown, still-active subways, and many businesses that have remained open—reportedly including karaoke bars, although Japanese citizens and industries are practicing social distancing where they can. Nor have the Japanese broadly embraced contact tracing, a practice by which health authorities identify someone who has been infected and then attempt to identify everyone that person might have interacted with—and potentially infected. So how does Japan do it?
One reason is that nearly everyone there is wearing a mask,” said De Kai, an American computer scientist with joint appointments at UC Berkeley’s International Computer Science Institute and at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is also the chief architect of an in-depth study, set to be released in the coming days, that suggests that every one of us should be wearing a mask—whether surgical or homemade, scarf or bandana—like they do in Japan and other countries, mostly in East Asia. This formula applies to President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence (occasional mask refuseniks) as well as every other official who routinely interacts with people in public settings. Among the findings of their research paper, which the team plans to submit to a major journal: If 80% of a closed population were to don a mask, COVID-19 infection rates would statistically drop to approximately one twelfth the number of infections—compared to a live-virus population in which no one wore masks.

On this, Trump isn't 100 percent to blame because the MSM in America didn't at first advocate wearing masks universally until very late. Though now he is, as usual, adapting foolish measures in relation to masks. Now his own administration is littered with COVID 19 positive test results, a dangerous situation that could have been avoided had the stubborn, hard-headed Trump adapted to the new situation.

ALL of the experts including the Trump advisers failed us on this one. Earlier the mainstream medical experts were afraid masks would be so rare the health care workers would be deprived so they ( wrongfully IMO) sent out messages that advocated NOT for us to wear masks.

Now that the COVID has spread so perniciously they realize masks, as they worked so well in Asia, should be adapted here as well. This study seems to back that up.

'People are scared': White House in disarray as members of Trump's inner circle exposed to COVID-19
Source: raw story

Published 1 min ago on May 10, 2020

Speaking with hosts Victor Blackwell and Christi Paul, Homes stated that the news that CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield, Dr. Anthony Fauci and FDA Director Stephen Hahn have all gone into one form of quarantine or another after two White House staffers tested positive for the coronavirus has rocked staffers who are still coming in everyday during the health crisis.

“This is clearly not the narrative that the White House wants to have right now,” Holmes began. “Remember just last week, President Trump broke his self-isolation and went to Arizona. That trip was meant to really signal that the country was ready to reopen; we’ve seen states slowly working to reopen their different businesses. We know people are going back to work and that’s what the White House wanted to be talking about.”

“Now the narrative is completely different, it is people are scared, and it’s in the place where it’s essentially the safest place in the country arguably,” she continued. “People are still getting sick here. What does that say? And what does it say if three of the top doctors on the front line fighting this virus are now quarantining themselves for 14 days?”

“Why? Because they came into contact with someone who tested positive. Where? Here at the White House,” she explained. “So, it’s clearly a shift in narrative, what we are talking about. Will anything actually change? That’s the big question now. Well, on Friday, after the vice president’s press secretary tested positive, a memo went out to all staffers, essentially said that they were taking stronger measures to protect them, to prevent the spread of coronavirus. That meant heightened cleaning in high touch-point places. It also meant at some points they would be maintaining maximum staff teleworking. One thing that wasn’t mentioned, though, was masks.”
