considering that my quad bypass and 5 day recovery in the hospital alone cost a little over $100,000 i'd have to say that a million bucks would dry up pretty quick for a medical situation such as terri schiavo's.

Republican morality: If a business wants to remove the breathing tube from a black baby against the wishes of his mother, the Republicans are nowhere to be found.

So, why Shiavo? Probably because "This is an important moral issue and the pro-life base will be excited..." and "This is a great political issue... this is a tough issue for Democrats."

That's why.

Pathetic scumbag neoconservatives, all of them. Complacent, self-serving Democrats, all of them.

Truly astonishing...

i know dooks. the pick and choose morality/values of some on the right is really a mindblower. not that some on the left don't do the same. but the ultra right seems to be so damned smug about it.

Brandon, some of your statements seem totally subjective. Can you back them up? Here are a couple that have me wondering if you are simply expressing your opinions while demanding others to provide sources:

Quote:
If you can provide evidence that she is not aware of her existence, please do so. It is my impression that there is by no means a consensus of opinion on this point, and numerous conflicting claims by people involved in the case.

Quote:
Judge Greer to the contrary, there have been numerous claims by people involved in this case that TS is, in fact, quite reactive to her environment and the people around her.

The following statement of yours has no correlation to Terry's condition. Being disabled is NOT the same thing as being in a vegetative state.

Quote:
Many people would agree that a disease-free disabled person can be called healthy.

Just who are the 'many people' who would ever compare Terry's condition to having a disability???

And yes, both Republicans and Democrats can be described as gutless wonders.

Interesting that Brandon has started fresh on other related threads, and not answered the questions left for him here.

Most likely because he can't. It's typical fair with Brandon on these threads.

Where is Howard Dean, the OTHER Doctor, who can chime in and point out the frivilous political dirty tricks and medical disinformation coming from Dr. Frist? Where are the Dems in all of this? They have been completely absent!!

Have the neoconservatives once again got the upperhand on this morality issue with Terry Shiavo?

This poor woman's family have suffered enough. And now they must suffer even more at the hands of politicians.

Truly disgusting.

Dookiestix, with the Dems it appears that, the more things change, the more they stay the same. I registered Democrat just for the past election. I'm headed back to the Independents.

One has to re-register to vote where you live? I didn't know that.

JW, I'm actually not sure. Living in Connecticut before moving to the Southwest, I was used to re-registering. As an Independent in CT, I couldn't vote in the primaries. I do need to get in touch with the registrar out here.

i registered libertarian in '76 when i moved to cal-eee-forn-ee-ya, but continued to vote republican until bush/quayle (i keep thinking there's a joke there. a bird in hand... Laughing ), then felt that "my party left me" and looked at the dems.

and now i see that my worst fears have been realized. the religious right has taken over the republican party.

the party of small government. what a joke.

Dr. Dean is busy diagnosing Republicans as "brain-dead." ..... You think he'd have any credibility for a diagnosis of Shiavo?

Maybe the dems are silent on this issue is because it really shouldn't be in the political realm at all.

Dean calling republicans brain dead is like the same tasteless phrase people use when they call people retarted.

I may be changing my mind about him if he keeps showing such a ugly side.

This is an area that makes me truly happy to be a veterinarian. All my kids have four legs. I define "quality of life" simply as the ability to have fun living. When that is no longer an option, then I consider the time to have come. And, when that time arrives, I always have and always will help them along on their journey. I owe them that much, and I sincerely hope that some special someone will think they owe that favor to me.

After reading some of the responses on here,I have to ask a question.

There are thousands of children in this country that are severely mentally retarded,or those that thruogh a disease or a parasite,or something their mother did before they were born, are severly mentally disabled.
It can be argued that they dont know they are alive either.
Since there are those arguing that since she isnt "self aware" that its ok to kill her, would it be ok to kill all of the severly mentally retarded in this country?
After all, they arent "self aware" either.

As in, there IS no awareness, no nothing, because the brain is basically dead.

What say mysteryman to that particular quality of life? How is that living?
