Poor Kavanaugh wants to run for SC judge

I would like this to be a thread about Kavanaugh, the accusations against him, and the political process surrounding his nominations. This is turning into another round of the in-crowd attacking a dissenter. I didn't start this bickering, and I would rather it didn't continue.

There are three things I am interested in discussing.

It is my opinion that Kavanaugh will be confirmed. I think Collins is a yes vote, and Manchin. That just about does it. We will see if I am correct.

I think this process have been a disgusting mess... with both sides to blame. The Democrats clearly used this as a political tool to stop a nominee they didn't like. The Republicans are pushing this through. Both sides are putting winning this political game over anything else.

I don't think there is enough evidence to know if Kavanaugh assaulted Dr. Ford. People are lining up in a very predictable way with conservatives for the nomination and liberals against it.

I would like to talk about these points.

In this #MeToo era, Bill Clinton would not have been even a candidate for President.

@InfraBlue,
Agreed.

The world has changed for the better since the 80’s/90’s.

And Hillary, who attacked the women who accused Bill Clinton of rape and sexual assault... would she have been a candidate for president?

Bill Clinton is still being invited to give speeches to adoring liberals... and his alleged crimes are more recent than Kavanaugh's. It is hard to not see the hypocrisy here on the part of the Democratic left.

@InfraBlue,
I just want to make sure I understand. You really think that if the #MeToo movement had been going strong in 2015, that Hillary wouldn't have gotten the Democratic nomination because of her attacks against the woman accusing Bill Clinton?

(There is an interesting paradox here...)

CNN is reporting that Flake is a yes, this in spite of the fact that both the ABA and Yale have turned against Kavanaugh.

It is all over, Kavanaugh will be confirmed.

@maxdancona,
She wouldn't have been even a candidate. She wouldn't have been an appointee of any president. She wouldn't have had the wave she was riding on from Bill Clinton having been the President. The Clintons would not have been a political dynasty.

@InfraBlue,
I guess that would mean the Democratic party has evolved quite a bit in the past two years.

It would have been nice if the Democratic party woke earlier. It was painful for me to vote for Hillary.

I don't know if anyone else is following the drama...

It looks like there might be a compromise... some Senators are proposing that they vote to advance the nomination from committee with the promise that there will be one week long FBI investigation before a floor vote.

Of course, we don't know what Kavanaugh is hiding (and some have suggested that he can survive an investigation). But this seems to be where it is heading.

Many would. However, this is a forum and topics sometimes take detours. Bring the topic back in line of it bugs you.

Other than that what you would like is of less concern to this thread than it should be for c.i. who began the thread. You enjoy trying to dictate on your threads max, don't pull the same crapola on other threads.

Considering the enduring support Trump receives, Bill Clinton still would have had a chance at picking up the nod from the Dems and the voters in general.

It's a possibility. The movement started after the Weinstein accusations late in 2017, though, about one year after Trump was elected. Had the movement been up and running before his candidacy, with the ferocity that it's persecuted "powerful men," as Trump has put it, I don't think Trump would have made it as a candidate. He made it by the skin of his teeth.

@InfraBlue,
Bill Clinton is still strongly supported by Democratic faithful, as is Hillary... who is revered in spite of the fact she attacked women for reporting rape.

@maxdancona,
I'm certainly not one of those faithful, but I'd still vote for either of them, reluctantly, over Trump.

@InfraBlue,
Yeah, and that was my choice in the last election - with emphasis on the 'reluctantly'.

I found that, with the new touch-screen voting machines, it is easy to vote while holding one's nose.
