Actually, I think that is right. But
all the problems and complexities will arise in trying to get this done.
A legitimately democratic social contract must arise or change by the will of the majority (North Korea being a prime example of how "social contract" by authoritarianism and propaganda turns out). And as we all know, there are significant sectors of US culture, well funded and highly effective in operation, that will damn near fight to the death to prevent movement in the direction of the sorts of social contract that exist in many European states. The changing views and agreements we see in the younger generation along with the increasing role of women in civic life are absolute necessities but the future ain't clear.
