There is science, logic, reason; there is thought verified by experience. And then there is Northern California.

Perhaps you should open your eyes, little k.

It is much easier to see what is going on that way.

Do you two have something to contribute to this thread, or what? This is really silly.

Just curious. There is a movement afoot to put a light in your window if you are against this war. Had anyone seen any in their neighborhood??

I count four on the building next door.

What does one put in your window if you are for this madness? Oh, sorry, if you are for releasing the enslaved Iraqi people from the bonds of a madman of our own creation, oh sorry again, truth keeps slipping in,
......hmmmm.... if you are for this great effort. (unh)

I've forgotten which thread now, but I recall a post from you, mentioning attending a rally with your young child. Congratulations! I know how much you wanted to attend one of the earlier rallies, but couldn't.
I really like the ideas of candles burning in many windows. Very Happy

For those who aren't on the mailing list, here's the latest email from Eli Pariser (MoveOn.org) today, re lights in windows:

It now appears that a war may be very close. The Bush
administration has abandoned the diplomatic process at the
United Nations. The United Nations has begun pulling its
inspectors out of Iraq. President Bush has given Saddam
Hussein 48 hours to leave Iraq or face war. This is a very
sad day.

We must remember in this dark moment that we have come a long
way. By working for peace around the globe, millions of
people have successfully challenged the justness of this war
on a world stage. We have persuaded governments to heed their
peoples' call to peace, and helped the United Nations maintain
its integrity. We all have been part of a historic
mobilization of the citizens of the globe. It will change
everything. And in the end, we will win.

We will continue waging peace, even if war comes. We have
joined together to articulate a vision of how the world should
be -- of how nations should treat each other, of how we can
collectively deal with threats to our security.

One simple way to show your continued commitment to this
vision is to put a light in your window. It could be a
Christmas string or candle, a light bulb, or a lantern. It's
an easy way to keep the light of reason and hope burning, to
let others know that they are not alone, and to show the way
home to the young men and women who are on their way to Iraq.

We'd like to keep a list of the places and people who are
joining in this simple act. Please sign up now at:

What a noble idea, and one that is obtainable were it not for the Saddam Husseins of the world.

But let's be real people, those who wage peace during times of war are called casualties.

If MoveOn doesn't already have a mascot, might I suggest the ostrich, since their "vision" of how to "collectively deal with threats to our security" seems to be that we should all bury our heads in the sand and pretend the threats will go away.

That's enough ... Stop being personal & unpleasant!

Ad hominem:
Definition:
The person presenting an argument is attacked instead of the argument itself. This takes many forms. For example, the person's character, nationality or religion may be attacked. Alternatively, it may be pointed out that a person stands to gain from a favorable outcome. Or, finally, a person may be attacked by association, or by the company he keeps.
There are three major forms of Attacking the Person:
1. ad hominem (abusive): instead of attacking an assertion, the argument attacks the person who made the assertion.
2. ad hominem (circumstantial): instead of attacking an assertion the author points to the relationship between the person making the assertion and the person's circumstances.
3. ad hominem (tu quoque): this form of attack on the person notes that a person does not practice what he
preaches.

Seems littlek just had to get her "cute" little barb in... attacking me and maxdadeo, personally, while not dealing with specific issues, I addressed in my comment.
Now I get more of the same from you. Your lack of insight and thoughtful expression, is only surpassed by your rhetoric.

Is this what A2K calls civil discussion, or is it only civil, when everyone is toteing the same ideology?

"...Welcome to the real world, one filled with hate, depravity, lies, and immorality..."

This may be your world, or your perception of the world, but it isn't mine.

I must be crazy--the more I hear the more I want to DO SOMETHING about it.

Now this is obviously not what Bush and the war party want, and I hope more people in this movement share my thinking!
