I went to a local elementary school to announce the Grand Prize winner in an art contest I'm directing. Walked into the girl's classroom with her principal and we made a big "to do" about it. Gave her the prizes, official certificate, etc. She was dumbstruck. Stood there frozen with her mouth wide open, unable to say a word, while all her classmates rushed around her, screamed, applauded, high-fived, etc. I got tears in my eyes. On the way out of the building, the principal said, "Wow, did you see the look on her face?!" I said yes, it made a lot of hard work all worth it.
Big smiles here tonight.
Congratulations, Eva. You are now part of a lifelong memory!
Yeah, Eva, congratulations on making those students happy.
Superficial smile of the day. I bought a new handbag. It's bubble gum pink.
Many things made me smile today, but the best of all is today is my Friday, took tomorrow off to take a trip to Sebastian Inlet, one of my favorite spots in Florida, then to eat lunch at Beach Side Inn, right on top of the ocean ......... lovely!

Some character in a sit-com said "From the heart of my bottom."

Jay Leno's monologues are often very cruel; I detest his destructive treatment of Howard Dean, for example. But last night his cruelty got a laugh out of me. He said that Rosie O'Connell married her partner in San Franscisco BECAUSE SHE HAD TO.
- Driving back from the East, the setting sun - all day, there'd been the most georgeous play of blond & pink light from in between snowskies in the view from my aunt's farmhouse - but when we drove back the sun had turned into this huge, even-coloured darkred disc in the sky - like a technicolour moon.
- Walking through the city of A. (I'd asked to be dropped off there cause I didnt feel like going home yet, not to my room) - cities in the east of the country remind me of my school days, they've got this eighties quality - and just when I was realising that, I passed by a sitting man playing a beautiful Russian tune on his accordeon. And just when I passed him, so did three other men, middle-aged, gesticulating and discussing, and they seemed old-world, too: one had a huge moustache that curled up in symmetrical crescents. They were Russian, too.
- I made myself smile, too, in A. - my lacking grasp of timespans. I'm not often there - once every few years, perhaps. But I have this knack of walking around places to find back the cafes I'd liked, and remember why I liked them. And so I went looking for this place that had delicious apple pie, and on my way looked out for that folksy other cafe that so cutely shaped up into a rounded triangle in between two branching streets.
I found the latter, first - it still looked the same. I found the former, too, and was slightly disappointed. It looks a bit run-down! Or have my standards changed? Why, it's only ... eh, when was it that I went here and felt so good? There was this festival of Slovak film in the FilmHouse across the street, and I came here two or three times ... Why, that was just in ... '94. <ahem>. Ten years ago.
Fer chrissakes, nimh - what were you thinking?! Ten years on and you still remember a cup of tea and a piece of apple pie? And you expect everything to still be the same - a cafe, of all things, which have as many lives as cats? Deflated, I sat down. And hesitantly asked if they had apple pie. They did. It was delicious ;-)

thanks for sharing a slice.

Eva,
just noticed your post ... very touching...
It made ME smile to read it.
Okay, so there was this roll of film in my camera that I knew had on it one last photo from my last trip to New Orleans (two years ago) and I vaguely remembered a gathering of some sort. I assumed the gathering in question must have been Abuzz or A2K. WRONG! I picked up the pictures this afternoon to find about five shots from a work outing. They were HYSTERICAL. I spread the smiles around work all day.
This wasn't today, but Sunday. I went to the Brunswick Festival (annual Street party in the shire I live in). Anyway Moreland shire is a very multicultural one & many of the different cultures are represented in the events.
The thing that really made me smile was a Italian choir - all ages, shapes & sizes - sing Walzing Matilda in Italian, with great gusto!
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, Misti! What a lovely shot! These darn cats are just irresistible!
I dragged myself out of bed early this morning to have a late breakfast with a friend....then we stopped at the craft store and spent too much money as we debated over what to do for her daughter's bridal shower and her grandchildrens' scrapbooks.....then home to play with my new craft supplies....
Now, if only the rain that's been threatening all morning would just start, it would be the perfect day.
Cuppa' tea anyone?
And there's still something left
We finally shipped a system that took forever.
A few beers with my colleagues after work.
Hello mellow fellow.
Slappy--It's about time. Did you use the potty all by yourself?
