The rains last night made everything beautiful - it's (another) wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Holy empathy, Batman!

Today, the sozlet was sleepy and I started to take her upstairs to put her down for her nap. She is going through a phase where she sometimes naps, sometimes doesn't, and the process can take a while before it's clear she's not going to nap. I realized that while I'd fed her an ample lunch, I hadn't eaten much myself, and I was starving. So I said to her, "Sweetie, I'm really hungry, so I'm going to eat something and then we'll go upstairs, OK?"

Usually, this elicits some kind of protest -- she's sleepy, she wants to go to sleep, she's already full. But she just nodded and accepted being put down (I was holding her) with no complaint. I found some things to eat, asked her if she was hungry, and she said no. She just watched me eat for a while, and then said, "Are you still hungry, Mama? Do you feel better, Mama?"

Shocked

This made me smile. And give the little empathetic sweetie a big hug.

awwww, now i want a sozlet too. i had a whole bunch of smiles around the house reconstruction. we picked a beautiful gray color for the bathroom, that has tiles / door/ appliances startling white. It was supposed to look very beautiful. I spent half a day painting, arriving at a result that resembled smeared mud on the wall. but no to grumble, i kept cracking up about it. every time i looked. the hanging up of a new chandelier was even more entertaining. it involved a lot of huffing and puffing and many many tries before we blew up a few circuits irreversibly. had a lovely evening, chatting by candlelights, lots to smile about.

Kind of a melancholy smile, but a smile nonetheless.....

Had to say good-bye to Mapleleaf this evening because he's flying back home tomorrow.

It's been an absolute pleasure to get to know him a little.

Now I'm giggling because of dagmaraka's post.....

Sozobe - the little one I take care of put herself to bed! This past week, I fed her and had just sat down to eat some soup myself when she said, I wanna go night night. I said ok, but I need to stay here and eat my soup, can you wait a minute? No, I'm sleepy. You want to go up stairs by yourself? Ok. She got up and started heading up stairs! Wait, I said, don't forget the bunnies (her security blankets = 2 bunnies and a blanket). She got everything, climbed the stairs and into bed. I finished my soup and went up to make sure everything was ok. She was fine and soon asleep. Amazing. Made me smile too.

little girls can be so sweet. I had, um, cramps last week and I kept saying owie and my neice kept raising her eyebrows in concern and asking if I was ok. "You ok gigi?" "want a band-aid gigi?". Sniff, so cute!

Talk about cute kids ...

out in front this time two little girls have parked out - instead of the usual teeny toughs w/their joints. They're like, eight or ten or so! Threw their bikes on the ground, bags on the bench-like slab of stone, coats all over the place, two brightly coloured plastic cups with an ice tea carton. They're reading to each other from a chldrens book, showing the pictures to each other. One moment one of them is climbing up the brick handrail of the bike ramp ... the other they're all chattering like little birds again - having a grand cosy time.

To think many people refused this flat because of this hang-out out here!

Was sitting in my office this morning, nose to the grindstone, when four very rowdy people stormed in!

Letty and Diane popped in to say good-bye.....Even though Phoenix is staying another night, she gave me a hug, too. Roger just kinda stood there wondering what to do.....

I'm going to miss everyone so much.....

But the memories will keep me smiling!

Smiled just now reading Rae's post.

Can't stop smiling thinking about our trip to Florida.

And of course - smiling happily because we are back with our cats. :-)

yesterday:

going out into the pleasant-est early summer sun, and everyone's out. a couple has taken their hammock out and hung it in between two traffic signs, looking out over the canal. over the bridge, quite a spectacle: a boy or girl dressed in a golden-blue dress flowing over the bridge railings in two huge sheets on to the water surface, parted aside whenever a tour boat passes by; from the railings colourful ribbons to the bridge construction above; (s)he himself, standing at the exact mid-point of the bridge, a huge crown on. don't know if it was for film or photo, but it looked beautiful. today, in the same weather, passed by two big boats cruising down the city canal full of people, music playing, dancing and drinking. man - just the first ray of sun and everybody goes party. thats kinda cute.

Just got off the phone with my sister.....

And I'm smiling because my two-week-old nephew was girgling and cooing in the background.....

Mom and baby are both doing well. Big sister (my niece) is trying very hard to live up to her job, but she doesn't like it when her brother screams.....she said 'Auntie Raerae, he is so wowd'!

Brother-in-law is bubbling over with his new son.

Happy family. Happy big sister, I am.
