chai and I have a mutual friend on fb
we've been friends since public school - mebbe grade 1 or 2?
he and chai lived in the same city for a while

he's had enough of homophobia - straight out calls out homohate

I love him for still being a smart and elegantly mouthy guy.

don't love that homohate exists

love RB for his words

just listening to the repeat of a marvellous radio interview with Jean Chretien

http://www.cbc.ca/radio/thecurrent/trump-and-the-trans-mountain-pipeline-what-would-jean-chr-tien-do-1.4684328

Quote:
"You cannot undo an omelette," he told The Current's Anna Maria Tremonti. Chrétien said the U.S. and Canada are too dependent on each other for trade for the deal to be scrapped.

Negotiating old deals is nothing new, he said, but "the Americans are big and slow, and we're small and fast."

The deal will have to be modified, he said, but even if Canada agreed to minor changes, to "change one comma, Mr. Trump would say it is the biggest historic victory that America ever had.

"And we [should] say 'Yes, sir, Monsieur Trump,'" he said.

I really miss Mr. A proof is a proof.

@camlok,
I'd really like it if you kept my father out of your posts.

Thank you.

@chai2,
Yikes. Near catastrophe last night. I came home from picking up food (after a big rainstorm with thunder and lightning) to find Joch and Mika standing like two waifs in front of the wrong side of the gate. They wanted in Badly. I got out and asked them what they were doing out there, as they generally show no interest in being out of their area. A neighbor across the way called over that they had been outside all day. I guess when their housekeeper was there they slipped out, and then got locked out. The gate automatically locks.

They couldn’t wait to get back in and we’re very very hungry and discombobulated. On top of that, their owners should have been home long before so I was a little concerned. Marianna is 5 months pregnant and I think it’s been a rough time.

I know it’s against ehBeths advice, but I had to run out and get them some food. They are very placid dogs, but they seemed pretty panicky overall. The food calmed them down, although they kept running to the gate at any sound, looking for mom and dad. They really wanted to be in their house. Finally, really late, I heard the gate open and everyone was in for the night.

making sure they were fed wouldn't be against my advice

my concern is about extra treats (and the particular type of treat) that owners don't know about. that's how my friend's dog ended up in medical trouble.

if something like this happens again, make them a mini cheese omelette or give them a bit of quickly poached chicken breast (with rice on the side if you have some hanging around) - better for them than most wet foods you can get them (and easier to deal with than emergency bags of kibble unless you have a store that sells sample packs)

@ehBeth,
Actually I got this great deal on the food. More in a moment.

I hadn’t thought of eggs, but I did give them a piece of cheddar cheese, which only whetted their appetite. I didn’t know what too much cheese would do.

When I ran to the PetCo (turns out it’s not a PetSmart) I saw the prices for the good dog foods were crazy expensive. Like 800 to 850 pesos for a bag that would cost $20 in the States.

Then I saw this brand called “Full Trust” that was in with the Iams and such, and this one 2kg bag had this red tag slapped on it that said 35 pesos. That’s less than $2. I didn’t understand the text on the red sticker as to why that particular bag was so cheap, but grabbed it. Any port in a storm.

I get to the register and the cashier walked away and came back with a 2nd 2kg bag that didn’t have a red tag. Then she rang up BOTH bags, 4 kg total, for 35 pesos! I said “Verdad?” and she confirmed. Guess it was on clearance.

So the kids got a meal and I have the rest to give to an amiga Silvia, who has a dog named Toi.

@chai2,
oh yeah a tiny bitta cheese can be a great appetite starter for dogs

that's why most trainers don't allow you to bring cheese as a treat when you do group training - they all get crazy and distracted

__

scrambled eggs/omelettes work for most dogs - good protein for them - after Bella was sick earlier this year we had to unskinny her (we'll never be able to fatten her up) I started making her scrambled eggs which she hoovers down - she loves them almost as much as she loves french toast

I'm a member of a book group. I've mentioned somewhere here that I'm the youngest member! There's nothing like showing up for a discussion of a book and spending the first half-hour looking for someone's hearing aid. But I digress.

When I returned home from the hospital, a package containing a book was waiting for me. I was eager to open it. I wanted to read something relatively good.

I opened the package. "Hey, wait a minute," says I. We read this book a few months ago. Someone must have sent it to me by mistake. I called the person semi in charge of book group business to tell her that I was sent the wrong book. She gave me the title of the right book, which was the title of the book they sent me. "But we already read this book," I said. The person I was talking to said she thought it seemed familiar.

"But I don't wanna read a book I already read. I want a new book." I was informed that no one else seems to mind. "I mind. I want a new book. I don't need two copies of the same book!" The conversation continued on like this. Result: They're gonna keep the repeat book. "Why should I bother coming to the meeting to discuss a book we already discussed?" I was informed that the members of the group valued my opinion. "I already gave my opinion!" So come to socialize.

After I hung up, I stewed for a while. Then it occurred to me that I might be the only one who remembers the book. This made me smile.

https://www.classicalmpr.org/story/2018/09/17/quiz-which-member-of-the-choir-are-you-yourclassical-choral-stream

fun quiz

the results sort of match what I've always said about the role I like to play as a dancer - I consider myself the continuo Smile

Quote:
Bass 1 - The 'Life of the Party'

As a bass, you are the singer with the lowest range in the choir. You are also farthest from the director, meaning your shenanigans and antics sometimes go unnoticed. You are talented, but it's safe to say you also know how to have fun. You selflessly sacrifice the spotlight to other singers, yet little do they know it's you who's really the life of the party. You are perceptive, studious and congenial, as well as the least irritable member of the group. Your rumbling voice always energizes the rest of the choir, and you take pride in your polished performance skills.

http://www.classical-music.com/article/what-continuo

Quote:
The result was the ‘continuo’, or in its original fullness, ‘basso continuo’. One instrument, or more commonly one group of instruments, now commanded the musical texture. It all centred on the bass line. Above the principal notes of the bass part, numbers and other musical symbols (‘figures’) started to appear like sharps or flats. These were to tell the keyboardist, or any other instrument capable of playing polyphonically like the lute or theorbo, what harmonies to build up from that bass (chord symbols in modern guitar music or in jazz work on much the same principle). As well as filling out the sometimes skeletal textures of Baroque music with warm, supple harmonic flesh, the continuo could also provide the rhythmic glue that kept a large ensemble together – the harpsichord, with its sharp clear attack, was particularly useful in this respect.

Got a flat tire 2 blocks from my house (office building construction). By the time I got in my driveway, completely flat.

That's not a smile, but the 12 minutes it took AAA to get here sure was!

I haven't had to call them in years. Now you can track to the minute online when they will arrive.

That must be a real comfort if you are stuck on the side of the road. If you have a signal that is.

Now I'm off to the tire place....another not a smile.
