What made you smile today?

I get along without you very well,
Of course I do;
Except when soft rains fall and drip from leaves,
Then I recall the thrill of being sheltered in your arms,
Of course I do.
But I get along without you very well.
I've forgotten you, just like I should,
Of course I have;
Except to hear your name
Or someone's laugh that is the same.
But I've forgotten you just like I should,
What a guy!
What a fool am I to think my breaking heart
Could kid the moon.
What's in store?
Should I 'phone once more?
No it's best that I stick to my tune.
I get along without you very well,
Of course I do;
Except perhaps in spring,
But I should never think of spring
For that would surely break my heart in two.

I was smiling because I'm proud of how she's learning and understanding, sad because of what she understands.

Awwwww. Little Missy Cleo loves her guy. It is amazing how much they understand. Sad to end the vacation, but nice to have them all the same.

Hugs around... sounds like everybody needs one.

Petunia... do you know the song, I'm a little Petunia in an Onion Patch?

---------

My smiles today came from getting to shop with my A#1 daughter. I helped her deliver a gorgeous cake to the Gypsies for a one year old's birthday (really and truly!) It came from the grocery store where she works and it was a wonderful cake, designed from the logo of Aladdin's Hotel in Las Vegas. The base was a big sheet cake, carved & decorated like a magic carpet and then there was one of those stands that held a layered round cake at least a foot tall that was carved to look like a dome with all sorts of pearls and glittery things. They family was very pleased (though they'd hoped for some minarets too, sigh) and gave Missy a $50 delivery tip. Then we went to <woohoo> Costco. But she's a doll to shop with and we had fun all afternoon.

All I remember of the melody is the chorus... but here ya go!

I'm A Lonely Little Petunia In An Onion Patch
THE HAPPY GANG

Of all the saddest words
That I have ever heard
The saddest is the story
Told me by a bird
He had spent about and hour
Chatting with a flower
and here ís the tale the flower told

I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, an onion patch, an onion patch
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch and all I do is cry all day

Boo hoo, boo hoo
The air ís so strong it takes my breath away
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, oh won't you come and play with me

Who put me in this bed?
I'll bet his face is red
I call him down with every teardrop that I shed
If I only had him here
I'd take him by the ear
And make him share my misery

I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, an onion patch, an onion patch
I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch
and all I do is cry all day
Boo hoo, boo hoo
The air ís so strong it takes my breath away

(Feee-you!)

I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, oh won't you come and play with me

My nerves begin to crack
Each time I see a track
Made by a kitty with a stripe right down his back
If he ever stopped by me, I think I'd rather be
A dead petunia, wouldn't you?

Ooooh he ís a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, an onion patch, an onion patch
He ís a lonely little petunia in an onion patch
And all he does is cry all day
Boo hoo, boo hoo

The air ís so strong it takes my breath away.
(Feee-you!)

I'm a lonely little petunia in an onion patch, oh won't you come and play with me?

Piffka, you must have an amazing memory...I can barely remember my real name.....This will be one of my favorite songs. My most favorite, at least at Christmas (for silliness) is I Want a Hippotamus For Christmas!

Thanks for making my day!!!

Oh no... sorry, Petunia! Not from memory, Embarrassed that was quickly found and posted from a lyrics page. Wink I'm interested in your Christmas song though... do you have the words? A hippo??? A friend of mine loves the Christmas song, "I'm gettin' nuttin' for Christmas (mommy and daddy are mad)." She can sing it all the way through... and does, every year! Another goofy Christmas song.

Piffka...i found The Hippopotamus song here at Google's cache of
http://soe.hyperchat.com/newchat/u/yummy/~soehippoFAQ.htm

Sorry, I do not know how to transfer that from the web page...but the lyrics are there and there is even a way to listen to the Song, which you need to do for the greatest effect... The song starts out

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.
Only a Hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll or dinky Tinker Toys
I want a Hippopotamus to play with and enjoy.

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue,
Just bring him through the front door,
that's the easy thing to do.

I can see me now on christams morning
creeping down the stairs.
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo standing there.

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hipopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me to.

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but them
Teacher says a hippo is a vegetarian.

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage.

I can see me now on Christmas morning
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to se a hippo standing there

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a Hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinocerosis
I only like hippopotamuses
and hippopotamuses like me to!

Well, I gave you the whole thing. It just makes me laugh.....

I was out for a walk with sozlet and my dad when we passed a nice old lady I've often exchanged waves and smiles with, but haven't talked to. She started to say something that I didn't quite catch, and my dad started doing this "move on, nothing to see here" body language. So I nodded and smiled and walked on. My dad said, "She was looney." I said ah, OK, I see.

Then we walked a bit more and I asked what she had said. He said, "She was talking about swarms of ladybugs [eyeroll] who bite [poor crazy person headshake.]"

I said, "But there HAVE been swarms of biting ladybugs!!" I looked back but she was already far away. Oops.

We have had this plague of ladybugs, just huge clouds of them. Only a few have bitten me when I bothered them, but bite they do.

One landed on his nose as we were talking. I urged it to bite him, but it was a nice ladybug.

What made me smile today: It barely was raining this morning after about 4" yesterday. Arrived home from work yesterday, after waiting in the rain and wind for 15 minutes for a bus, wet from the knees on down. Umbrellas are only so protective.

Anyhow, it's not raining at all now! A reason to be cheerful...

There was definitely some urban flooding, though the news focused on the worst images (as per usual) which tended to be in rural areas. But one of the creeks did spill over its banks somewhere north of me (but in Seattle; might've been Ballard) and it looked a mess. It rained as hard and as steadily as I've ever seen it, patiodog, but the temperatures have been freakishly warm. They call it the Pineapple Express...
