Hooray Piffka!

Recently I accompanied sozlet to the orthodontist. I had an interpreter. There was a new doc -- resident maybe? Not sure. Anyway he was mostly tending to sozlet. There were the usual intros, etc., and then some exchanging of info (any problems? no), and then mostly he just got down to business.

There were some pleasantries -- he'd say something, the terp would do his thing, I'd respond verbally.

At the very end of the appt., he looked at me and started to say something. I looked at the terp, to view whatever the doc was saying. The terp didn't interpret anything. I looked back at the doc. He was looking confused, then started to say something again. I looked at the terp. Nothing happened. The interpreter said (apropos of what exactly I'm not sure,) "Um, she's deaf."

The doc looked shocked. SHOCKED. "You're deaf? Really? Wow. You're so... normal! I had no idea!"

I caught this while looking back and forth between him and the terp. (Lipreading and then double-checking to see that's what he'd actually said.)

I just laughed, but sozlet and I exchanged "WTH??" glances.

The doc had been talking to sozlet throughout and didn't seem to have any reason to think she was deaf.

We can't figure out why he thought the interpreter was there if neither of us were deaf. Best I can figure, he thought the (male) terp was my husband and we were just, like, chatting? In sign language? I have no clue.

Anyway, that was a first.

My boss is getting married a week from today.

L is about 45. She's been married before. She's been engaged to J for close to 5 years. They'd been together a few years before the engagement.

She hasn't seen him since Wednesday. She wants it to be special when they see each other next Friday.

She is such a romantic.

@ehBeth,
First weekend I have been able to draw breath and enjoy where I have moved to.

First....drove through lovely scenery with vineyards, lovely old houses, sea glimpses, glorious hills to Willunga, which is an historic little town, now being built up, but preserving its history.

Had lunch with friends....just missed the fabulous market....but began to discover places to get Asian food, great organic food, fabulous fresh fruit and veg, bakeries, good coffee and so on.

Then drove to McLaren Vale through yet more lovely country and bought my first plants! Have been planting some of them today.

Beach walk later today, then home creating and more gardening tomorrow, followed by afternoon tea with a friend I have discovered lives up here too.

Cats soaking up sun.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm......

@ehBeth,
We had our first family reunion today with my cousins and siblings in Millbrae. Our cousin in Hawaii is here in California for the Stanford-Cal game tomorrow, and he's the one who organized the event. It was great - finally meeting some cousins I've never met, and seeing others that I haven't seen for more than 35 years. Most of us are graying, but all seems to be in pretty good health.

My smile will last more than today. Mr. Green

@dlowan,
Reading what you wrote...

Seems we live very CLOSE to each other... The old country, vineyards, restaurants, garden centre and so much more, even further up the road is the most beautifulist days D and I ever spend together......

Where is there an Asian shop? I only know one, this way in Reynella and erm not that good at all....

@ehBeth,
Nice to hear!

I heard from my some time ago business partner, and we're catching up. She bought a new horse (against better judgement, not to mention her husband's, I can just hear him). Animals keep her going. The horse I knew is now elderly, still loved.

Message from a foreign friend: "Don't let Sandy blow you!" She asked me why I laughed; I answered evasively.

@FOUND SOUL,
I am further south, I think.

There is a Thai place in willunga..well, two, actually...one looks more authentic as the other also sells fish and chips!

There is a Chinese/Vietnamese stall in aldinga beach shopping centre. They have some Vietnamese soups that I like.

There is also an indian place on the esplanade at aldinga beach.....I don't know how good it is.
And there's a Chinese place in mclaren vale.

My iPad capitalization has gone weird!

This will sound odd - but I haven't recycled here in my neighborhood because I haven't had the right recycled plastic bags. I'm a long time recycler. I liked the dump in my last home town, which was well designed for that, and at one point, my business partner and I tried to spiff up the place, and that was plain old fun.
Anyway, I routinely chucked stuff in the right bins there. A moderately famous LA architect did a redesign, and we as locals picked colors for the buildings, inside and out, and so on. Business partner thought of making bright planters out of dumpsters..
So those are my creds, I like recycling, whatever the complications I've read about.

In Abq, I drive less and the place to do that disposal is fairly far away. Plus the right plastic bag on pick up day problem. Ahhhh, but now there are free bags at my grocery.

Happy Girl.

@dlowan,
One of the best Restaurants we have ever gone to on the Esplanade of Willunga a few times, is Star of Greece. The previous owner, was an older woman, who would come in from surfing, get changed and mingle. I still remember the desserts, though I am not a sweet tooth one being, ice-cream that was in the shape of a large slice of watermelon and exact colours home made.. The owners have changed but it's this white wash restaurant with balcony, small kind of querky little place over looking the sea and the food is outstanding, though a tad expensive.

Fino (special occasions) is David's favourite. They (yuck) kill their own meat and cook it for hours on end, have won many awards.

Personally chinese is my favourite and thai is David's preference, so we may venture up a little up the hill and check some of those out Smile We are closer to Old Port Noarlunga. We often head to Willunga, Aldinga or Mc Laren Vale to eat out..

If you like home made food sitting in a "shop" check this link out (if it works or google it) Smile It's at Old Noarlunga. Langs thai is next to it, her food is good, atmosphere sucks, I've tried to get her to makeover the restaurant with ambiance, she sort of tried lols.
