What made you smile today?

The most grueling run of my life -- thrashing, straining, going to the limit
and beyond. I woke up and smiled knowing I was in bed and about to
fall back asleep.

I'm glad I was able to see him in performance last year at the beginning of his farewell tour.

@ehBeth,
Thanks for that Beth. I'm guessing you've seen the Johnny Cash equivalent? Not so smiley, but deeply touching.

@hingehead,
I love the Johnny Cash equivalent as well.

Thanks hinge - I hear something different each time.

Both remind me that it's important to get out and attend performances by artists I value.

I liked Jackie Vernon 's comedy.
I used to watch him on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Once, when I was in Las Vegas, I saw that he was performing.
I was very glad to go and catch his act. I saw that his hands were shaking during the show.
I heard that this was his last performance, due to molting off of his human body.

@ehBeth,
What caught my eye was the RS interview with Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. If you've ever watched Breaking Bad, this interview is amusingly "out of character," especially with the baby lambs.

I smiled an embarrassed smile just a minute ago as I discovered I'm a real Northern-Hemisphere chauvinist, not just the ironic one I play when bantering with Australians here. Richard Dawkins' God Delusion (I'm currently re-reading it) exposed me on a page where he talks about our solar system.

Richard Dawkins wrote:
Earth's orbit, like those of all the planets, is technically an ellipse (it is closest to the sun in January and furthest away in July*);

[rest of page skipped]
___________
* If you find that surprising, you may be suffering from northern hemisphere chauvinism, as described on page 115.

Oops! Embarrassed

Well - we love that you've admitted it anyway! You northern hemisphere type!

That there was a photo of my prandfather and grandaunt from 1913 in the local history magazine today

http://i45.tinypic.com/15nstp2.jpg
(They are the couple in the centre.)

To explain: this year, the 'Schützenverein' (that's historically the town's militia, but since 17th century more a 'festivity association') had it's 600th jubilee this year. Congruously, in 1912 it was their 500th - one should think. It was, but without great festivities, since there was in that year the emperors jubilee as well as some other jubilees which "shouldn't be spoiled". So it was in 1913. With grandpa (mother's side) as king and grandaunt (wife of a "Counsellor of Health", a family doctor and navy surgeon) as queen.

Just as the politics stuff has been getting me really frustrated, got an email asking me if I could be on a six-person panel to educate deaf voters on various election issues. (State and national.) Yes, yes, yes! I absolutely love being able to actually DO something.
