Today in the grocery store I made faces and played with the toddlers who were riding in their moms' shopping carts.

The lady across the street had a baby boy few days ago. So unusual anymore, a boy. So many girls. They have a tiny little girl now, very feminine and about two. I bought a very boyish baby gift, a 3 mo. size red Oshkosh onesy and a tiny pair of jean shorts. I'll take the gift over when the husband gets home.

To read Reyn's thread about the egg inspector and how the "regulars" responded, made me smile, actually I laughed out loud.

@CalamityJane,
Today in the grocery store I saw they still had three packets of Kashmir Spinach left (it's the one of the products that is usually sold out). I'm addicted to it and must learn to make it on my own. Tried once and it was yeccch.

I like the new clerk and her helper bagger. Wonder if they'd hire me... Probably not, I'd scare the customers.

@CalamityJane,
I've laughed so much today that I haven't had time to smile.

What did Reyn say about the egg inspectors Cal?

@spendius,
Reyn, on another thread, talked about having a job interview today to be an egg inspector in Canada. We haven't heard, at last cluck, how that went.
Suffice it to say that that hatched some very juvenile humor here.

The best suggestion was for an egg carton with the slogan "We all just got laid."
That cracked me up.

a very serious argument between two new neighbours about who could go fastest on their trike

she - about three - on a trike with a long handle at the back that mother was pushing

he - about four - independent on a tiny noisy trike with many bells and whistles and honky things

@dlowan,
I think mom did.

She was quietly cracking up with laughter behind both of them.

I think she's going to be a fun addition to the neighbourhood.

The bell-dinging and squeaky debating went on for quite a while.

I had to bring the dogs in - they started adding their dulcet yips to the discussion.

@ehBeth,
What made me smile today?

The NET!!

I bought a Dolphin torch (medium one), got it home, and could not figure how on earth to get bloody batteries into it.

No instructions on packet!!!

Went nutso...finally looked it up on net.

Lo and behold, there is a whole world of people who can't figure out how to do it...and some sages who figured it out.

Let there be light!

My niece tagged me in a photo on facebook and I saw it this morning, and until then I'd forgotten all about this little girl with whom I'd played in the pool at the hotel for hours and hours while I was in Texas.

She was the most imaginative child. She was the babysitter - her little sister was my child. I was the mother who had to swim to my job every day as a dolphin trainer. She (the babysitter) paid ME for being such a good mother every day.
The last day of her babysitting job she told me that she had to sleep over my house because she couldn't sleep at her house. When I asked her why she answered, 'Because it's on fire!" I asked her if we shouldn't call the fire department and she said, 'Later - after we finish our hot dogs and oatmeal.'

I had so much fun that day and seeing her again makes me smile.

I read today about a 29 year old flight attendant for JetBlue who had an altercation with a passenger on a plane from Pittsburgh to NY regarding overhead luggage.
Upon arrival in NY the attendant went on the PA, berated the passenger, and then exited the plane by opening an emergency exit and going down the slide. He got in his car and went home.
He was later arrested.
The comments following the article were 100% in favor of the attendant, with him being hailed as a bit of a hero.

@realjohnboy,
Wow. The story of this guy has gone viral in the media and on the internet.
He is 39, by the way, not 29. And he grabbed a beer from the galley on his way out.

Belize has set aside preserved land to help form a natural corridor between wild lands to help out the native Jaguar populations....

Quote:
More than 7,000 acres of key jaguar habitat between Belize City and Belmopan, the capital of Belize, has been designated as a sanctuary for the embattled big cat, the conservation organization Panthera said yesterday.

Describing the sanctuary as "another huge step forward in the fight to save wild cats," Panthera said the Labouring Creek Jaguar Corridor Wildlife Sanctuary was designated by officials as a protected area "and adds one more stretch of safe passageway to the species' range."

What made me smile today? Finally being able to get up out of bed long enough to get a new garden hose from Home Depot so I could water the wilting vegetable garden today. Been in bed for a week with a disc problem and muscle spasms in my back. The disc finally slipped back into place a few days ago and the muscle relaxers are able to finally untie all the knots in my lower back.

Am counting on being back to normal in a few days so I can sow the seeds for the second season crops in the garden this week. So far we've had fresh cucumbers (which I pickled), beans, peas, eggplant, corn, peppers, onions and lots of tomatoes from the garden. I'm hoping to plant seeds for carrots, garlic, broccoli, lettuce and more beans, peas and cucumbers for the second season. The watermelon should be ripe enough to harvest in a couple more weeks.
