What made you smile today?

Ran in Artisani Park with Jespah and Region Philbis; after that we had Mexican lunch on Harvard Square.

Hung out with littlek, who had the kindness not to cancel even though she felt the onset of a potentially nasty migraine. The symptoms she reported were fascinating by the way; I'd wish her a speedy recovery, but part of me wants her to experience more intersting symptoms to report.

Had the first Korean dinner in my life together with ebrown p. Loved the vegetarian bi-bin-bops, especially when mixed with Korean hot sauce. (They aren't kidding when they say it's hot.) Afterwards we went to an Irish pub near Central Square.

What made me smile today? Everything!

@Thomas,
PS, littlek: jespah and region asked me to send say hi. I totally forgot to extend their greetings.

@Thomas,
Cooooooool!

Lots made me smile today...though I was rudely roused from slumber by a friend cancelling a threesome lunch today because of (another) broken heart...same fella has dumped her again. Broken hearts suck mightily.

But...I had a very pleasant lunch with the remaining friend, and went on to find the handbag/backpack I had been seeking for travel purposes.

Lots of city walking in the lovely, cool, wet, cloudy day...

And, last of all....I love the relationship between Adelaide people and bus-drivers! EVERYONE (almost) makes a point of thanking the driver when they disembark.

@dlowan,
I once thanked the driver of a train and he smiled at me so contemptuously that I resolved never to do it again. One might end up writing letters to the Department of Transport to thank them for the smooth operation of the traffic lights.

I don't remember the name, littlek. It was on the Southern side of Massachusetts Avenue, maybe a block or two West of where Main Street branches off.

Speaking of pubs: what was the name of the Chinese restaurant you were speaking so fondly of yesterday? I want to check it out on my next visit.

I was all set to defriend my son on facebook because I was tired of looking at pictures of him in the pub at the last 'Birthday Bashment' or 'Somerset Lashing' or 'Off the Rails 2' party and I was going to write something really stupid and motherly on facebook and say, 'Oh, yet another record of societal productivity or personal achievement' and then defriend him, so I wouldn't have to see all these young people mindlessly partying - but I got busy and forgot to.

And I'm glad I did because last night he calls me at about 10:30. I said, 'Oh hi - what are you doing home at 10:30 on a Friday night?' And he said, 'I'm just here at the flat by myself - everyone else has gone to the pub - I just couldn't face another night with the same people doing the same ****.'

'Wow! Then he goes on to tell me about seeing an obviously pregnant woman drinking and smoking and how sights like that are something he's getting of tired of seeing.

And then, when I have to admit I'd begun to despair of ever seeing any signs of him having a social conscience - although he's a lovely, kind and gentle young man - he said, 'You know mom - I think I want to change my major and go in a totally different direction. I think I want to teach underpriveleged kids in a Spanish speaking country (he's been taking Spanish for international business).

And then he asked me if he could come over Monday to use my phone to call his grandmother. He's been missing her and he doesn't have enough credit on his own phone to call her.

I went to sleep with the biggest smile on my face last night.

I was driving in the country the other day, over the Blue Mountains and into the central west of my state (between Lithgow and Bathurst - for those who are interested). In Sydney, the weather had been filthy, but over the mountains, there was sunshine with some cloud. As I came up a hill, I saw out to the left a mob of kangaroos - about 30-40 or so. They were all standing there, all roughly facing east, and basking in the morning sun (it was about 8.30am).

It's a long time since I've seen such a big mob of roos - and to see them standing, apparently in formation......

Grinned for the next 60 kilometres.

Coming home later that day, I experienced rain, hail, sleet, and possibly some snow in that area!! Sheeesh!

Lovely image!

My smile today -- I asked a question on Facebook about dress codes and got into a digression with a friend of mine from grade school about what we wore back then. I said something about a weird outfit I used to wear, in my usual A2K/ Facebook mode -- nobody here knows me from when I was a kid, and the vast majority of my friends on Facebook are people I've met in the last 10-15 years. But she said "I totally remember that outfit!"

It really made me smile. As an only child without a lot of ongoing contact with people from my childhood, just kind of surreal in a nice way to have a random nugget of memory affirmed by someone who was THERE.

I've been spending the last 1 and a half going through the http://thisisphotobomb.com/ site.
Very Happy

Should have gone to bed at least a half an hour ago. Shocked

I just learned the term yesterday:
Quote:
photobomb 7320 up, 867 down
December 5, 2009 Urban Word of the Day

(verb)- to drop in a photo unexpectedly...to hop in a picture right before it is taken.
sarah: hey why is jimmy in the background of our prom picture?
ryan: idk, he must have photobombed it at the last second.

2. photobomb 158 up, 33 down

Any time the background of a picture hijacks the original focus.
Uncle Bob's hairy ass totally photobombed that picture.

3. Photobomb 135 up, 16 down

An otherwise normal photo that has been ruined or spoiled by someone who was not supposed to be in the photograph.
The most common photobomb is someone in the background making a face.

Walking out of the grocery store, passing a lady loading her van,...I made a face at the baby. In four seconds time, the baby returned a happy face, tilted its head back, opened mouth, fell asleep.

I received a frightening and threatening certified letter from the IRS today. I started to cry. Why isn't this post on the what made you grimace and grit your teeth thread?

When I called, they basically said, "Never mind."

Thud.....Smile.

One of my students was telling me about his new cell mate who is this hugely obese Indian man of 62 or 63 who came into his cell and introduced himself and then immediately asked, 'Will you be snoring?'
My student said, 'No, why?'
The Indian man answered, 'I tell you this now - I will be snoring - and I may be talking. In the morning I will be farting. But it is not dirty - will not smell - don't worry - because I don't eat pig.'

We all laughed for like ten minutes at that one. My student did a perfect Indian accent.
