@Swimpy,
If your Mother lived here Swimpy she would be getting a telegram of congratulations from The Queen.

Give her mine.

When my husband's grandmother turned 100, she received a certificate from the President. (The honor is available to all citizens...wish I had the web address, but you can probably find it online somewhere.)

@Eva,
That's very nice Eva and I didn't know of it but having a certificate from certain presidents hasn't quite got that touch of class which Her Majesty brings to such an auspicios occasion.

What does a staunch Democrat think of a certificate from President Bush?

True. Fortunately, all our surviving former presidents also send out birthday greetings. That might be preferable for some.

@Eva,
Now I've read your link Eva I have smiled a lot.

They arrive here unrequested.

I would be mildly suspicious of what your link shows especially as the qualifying age is nothing too special. You have almost 10 million over 80. And only about 80 over 100. (10 year old stats).

Are there any fees?

I got the impression it is a Big O initiative.

Obama didn't start this. It's been in place for many years. Greetings can be sent for many different occasions, although the 100th birthday greeting is the best known.

I don't think there's a fee, but someone else can check that out. It may not seem like a big honor to you, but my husband's 100 year old grandmother was quite thrilled. Perhaps Swimpy's grandmother would be, too? Anyway, just thought I'd pass it along.

@Eva,
Eva- it certainly is an honour at 100 and unsolicited. I'm not so sure about a solicited certificate at 80 though.

Most of our centurions usually appear on TV and are invariably asked what they attribute their longevity to. One chap once said smoking 60 Capstan Full Strength a day since being in short pants.

But your system interests me. I'm inclined to think that a degree of cynicism is in play.

@Eva,
Thanks Spendy.

Eva, Several requests have been submitted to the President. I hope she gets something from him. She will be thrilled even if it is late.

@Gargamel,
You did read such a study? Do you have a link? I read a study like that ab out losers with stuffy diction who talk **** online, subimtting overlong posts that nobody reads. get laid all the time, but the study was about African-Americans and the reason they got laid all the time had nothing to do with their stuffy diction and the fact that they talked **** online, but rather on the enormous size of their genitals.

I am envious of them( but Obama is only half black so his size is greatly diminished)

@genoves,
I hardly think "laced" applies to something that is dropped with a plop, sinks to the bottom and gives off an odd bubble.
