just sitting on the porch this morning at 7 a.m. , looking at the flowers and bushes in the garden , listening to the birds chirp and sing , watch the squirrels chase each other , seeing some rabbits hop around and nibbling the grass and having a "pre-breakfast" before heading to the pool made me smile - will be repeated every monday to friday for the next couple of months . .
the winter comes early enough , when we'll be sitting inside for "pre-breakfast" .

Yup. That comment made me smile. Misplaced modifiers are the bane of us poor souls for whom English is a second language.

The sunshine! Finally, a day that felt like summer. When I came home from work, I changed into vacation clothes, took a book and went out to a beer garden to sit in the sun, read, drink iced coffee, look at people and act like I was on vacation. Cool

Most people wouldn't guess. I mean I've been speaking English since age 11 when we came to the USA as refugees. But at home we always spoke Latvian. It paid off, too. I'm accredited by the State Dept. as a Latvian interpreter and translator and, from time to time, get some nifty assignments. And that always makes me smile. Smile

Never noticed any accent, but you do talk pretty quietly. Smiling remembering the John Harvard's Pub meet.

I swear I am not making this up:
A man called my art supply store today and asked for a particular brand of marker. I recognized the name as something we used to carry, but no more.
I asked him what he was going to be using it for. Perhaps we might have an alternative.

"Promise you won't laugh?"
"Um, okay."
"I use that marker to paint the queen in my beehives."

When I finished laughing, I asked:
"Do you just paint her fingernails?"

I was on a windy corner near a big crepe myrtle tree that was losing its blooms. For a minute, it was like being in a warm pink snowstorm.
