what a nice page of smile-making stories

I put the lil dogs on leashes when I got home - took them in the car with me to pick up some pet food - then thought, we're close to the beach, let's see if I can get a parking spot.

Got to the Balmy Beach Club - got a parking spot - grabbed some treats and supplies and headed for the beach. Cleo headed straight into the water. Since we weren't in the off-leash area, and I didn't have the long walking leashes, I had to go in with her.

Kicked off my shoes and ran into the little waves.

My dress pants are soaked and sandy to the knees.

It was a great hour at the end of the work day.

Very Happy

That sounds nice. Smile

My daughter had her school concert tonight, she is in the choir and they sang the Joshua Kaddison song "Beautiful in My Eyes"...I had tears running down my cheeks. They sang it so beautifully that it was sad and yet strangely so uplifting at the same time.

Our civic long weekend starts tonight - work shuts down an hour early - I'm going to walk to Chinatown2 with a couple of my work friends - I'm soooooo looking forward to it.

Last night I got to spend a little time with the baby twins from a few doors down, and had a sweet snuggle with their 2 year old sister as well. It was an awfully nice evening. Dogs and babies and fresh air - things can't be much sweeter than that.

I received an advance copy of next week's NEJM. The article I co-authored is being published and the related editorial is very complimentary of the work we do Very Happy

Also, I leave tomorrow for a 4 day trek through Michigan, spending each night in a different B&B along the Lake Michigan shoreline, mmmmmmm.

My mom collects cats. I don't know how it started, but there it is. little cats, big cats, wooden cats, silver cats, cat brooches, cat bags, cats everywhere. Two days ago I have returned home from Boston for half a year, so naturally I brought a cat. This one is a size of a real kitten, made out of fur, with a bright pink nose. Curled up as a real sleeping kitten. Too real. My father moves the stuffed thing around the house - once he puts it on o sofa in a living room, then on a chair in a dining room.... never fails to startle the living daylights out of my mom. She produces a little yelp, which seems to please my dad to no end. He chuckles like a silly schoolgirl. Our dog Krispin likes the cat, but will not tolerate it sleeping on a couch where he is forbidden. No. Last night he got on that couch right next to that thing with an air of determination. If the cat can, so can I!

The neighbor's peach tree is rippening - let the squirrel buffet begin! I love this. There's a fence that runs under a branch which is heavy with fruit. The squirrels hop along the top of the fence, grab a peach and hop back. They take turns.

Let's see. What is making me smile is that I'm looking forward to a quiet night of reading and hanging out listening to a bunch of CD's I've never heard before. Simple pleasures, man!
