Yesterday was a brilliant brilliant day.
We started off with a very good dog walk, then I went to get my hair cut and summerized, then off to a florist to pick the flowers for a very special arrangement, then zoomed home to get dressed up, and then - off to Miss Rita's Surprise 80th Birthday Party! Miss Rita is a wonderful lady. She came to Canada as a war bride in 1946, raised her 3 sons pretty much on her on as her husband died when the boys were 4, 6 and 8, worked until she was nearly 70. The turn-out at the party was great, church friends, people she'd worked with 30/40 years ago!, pals from her seniors club that she travels with, current and former neighbours, friends, family ... everyone was there. She was delighted, and surprised and as charming as ever. I sat with some neighbours briefly and then joined a table with some seniors (partly to make sure those who had mobility problems were attended to - I was pretty busy on the punch and cake-fetching front). That was a super way to spend an afternoon. The ladies I sat with (yes, I really really really am referring to someone as a lady!

) were so funny - raucous and charming and full of wonderful stories. I drove one of them home. She was a war bride with Miss Rita, and they were Scout Mothers together in the 1950's. She had marvellous stories to tell.
Later, I took the dogs out for another stroll (can't say walk around here too much). Little Janetta joined us again. She and Cleo love to walk together. Janetta had stories to tell about her friend Olivia, who has just given her a Princess Pal friendship bracelet. I was appropriately enthralled
A wonderful tiny moment on the doggie front. Cleo (the most nervous of small dogs 2 years ago), approached Janetta's baby cousin (about 18 months) on her little trike/bike/wagon thingie and licked her baby finger. Both of them grinned and were very happy. Cleo bounced for a whole block after that little success.
