YAAAY, Ernie can carry a banner while Stash would give lectures on the origins of Dominion Day. You know Border Collies , once you educate them they never accept doghood again.

------

off the point, sort of, I have a copper plaque that i found in the mud off Cape Split in the Bay of Fundy. We got stranded in a low tide and had to wait for water to return, so I went out and slogged around in the mud digging clams, and found this plaque. It was a 1927 Confederation "sahvenier" I guess. It perhaps came off a boats pilot house because it was very thick gage metal and was relief pressed with amazingly good detail.
Ever see one of these?

Happy birthday, devriesj.

Thanks, Beth! That made me smile Very Happy I like birthday greetings received a day late, makes the fun last longer! I like your last post about the girl t& the dogs. Reminds me of my 10.-yr.-old daugher & her love of dogs. She & my son stop anyone walking their dog(s) past our house & ask to pet them. We dog-sat last week end for some friends who have a Bison Frise. The kids were in heaven! Boy did they tire that dog out with all the walking, playing and constant watching him!

Oh, and Happy Canada Day to all my northern (&western) brothers & sistas!

Taking a day off and going to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Pepsi Max is still absolutely staggering from the M55 (in fact I'm in my motorcar on my lap-top, but thankfully NOT on the M55! Laughing ).

Also, this sandwich is pretty bloody good, but I'll have to wait a few minutes before tackling another coaster or I'll get queasy! Yechh! Shocked

Went to a Canada Day parade and picnic. It was like being in a small town instead of being in the middle of a huge city. It would have been nice to have nimh there to gather impressions.

My friend Brenda and I were part of a group that reaffirmed our Canadian citizenship today. It was a nice ceremony. Speeches from the aboriginal community, some politicians, and a rep from a local council against racism - the vow of citizenship - and then some darn bad singing led by our member of federal Parliament. She apologized before, during and after singing.

At least you have a cool National ANthem. The US one really sucks yet we keep it like a rotting testimonial to a war in which we essntially" won" in the cloakrooms .
Id like to have ray Charles version of America thhe beautiful be made the nAtional Anthem and everybody else sHUUT THE F*** UP!

I'm with you on the Ray Charles version of America the Beautiful farmerman. It's really tremendous.

I actually prefer "The Maple Leaf Forever" as a Canadian Anthem. I live quite close to the maple tree that inspired Alexander Muir to write the song.

I particularly like this bit ...

Quote:
Our fair Dominion now extends
From Cape Race to Nootka Sound
May peace forever be our lot
And plenty a store abound
And may those ties of love be ours
Which discord cannot sever
And flourish green for freedom's home
The Maple Leaf Forever.

I've reached the 69 threshhold today, and my wife gave me a gift of a colorful garden wind fan. That made me smile.
