Amazing skies in the "Randstad"?

Hell yeah! I was cycling back from Lage Vuursche, down past Maartensdijk and Groenekan to Utrecht - beautiful skies!

Even from Anastasia's second-floor window down by the Amsterdamsestraatweg you see the most amazing skies ... just like back when I still lived at home on the second floor of a house near The Hague ... those absent-minded but sturdy banks of white clouds passing through across a wide blue sky ... the sunset adding pink and purple, and when there's more clouds but also sun, the rays piercing through, individually visible ...

From my apartment I see shitall of the skies. But Holland's got amazing skies, man. You never noticed? You aint got 'em like you got 'em here anywhere else ...

I still wanna go to this movie thats doing the arthouse cinemas now, "Hollands Licht" - sounds intrigueing.

I discovered (yesterday) a bank account which I had opened and then completely forgotten abt it. Since I had made it all web based I did not get any paper statements or anything. The account manager rang me up and asked me what I wanted to do with it as it was abt to go into "dormant" mode !!!

And it had some money in it as well Smile

nimh's sig makes me smile every single time. I seem to keep forgetting about it... "hey!!" Even in the most rancorous political discussion (and dang, there are a lot of those lately, aren't there?) it still works.

The National Black Arts Festival is going on in Atlanta this week and today I bought a collection of three very unique pieces by a young artist. I've had my eye on them since Sunday and I really like them but I wasn't sure about my husband, whether he would like them or, as a 'retired' artist, would he sneer at them and insist that he could do better. Well, he likes them. Alot. And that made me smile. Bigtime.

Yep and yep. Not muuuch better but in web development and for a more stable company, both were a lot more important to me than anything else.

I saw a deer today! Hell, I saw lots of deer!

Last time I saw a deer was in 2000, when I went cycling for the day around here and headed home in the evening - one jumped right in front of me across the path, just as I was looking to the right cause I'd spotted some bunnies over there in the field. Took me quite by surprise.

But today - tonight, cause it was dusk already again - cycling in the east of the country, I swerved into a tree-lined dirt path with my thoughts far away, and suddenly saw one in the field to the right - a male deer! With big antlers, at least 1/3 the size of his body, very impressive. I havent seen one of those in the wild since ... well, since I was a kid!

He looked at me sternly, waited, I waited, we waited. I made a move, he stepped back, we waited. I took one more step and off he went - but at a controlled speed, as if in a deliberate effort to remain dignified. And he was.

Quite happy now, I turned left, right, left and right again into another of those dirt tracks that some ass put a "own road" sign on (which I usually ignore - something that often has me tracking back my path if I end up dead-ended at some farm, but just as often leads me down neat, pretty sidetracks that at the other end do not say "own road"). And there, at the forest's edge, were two more deer! Females, small and inconspicuous. They quickly ran off. Later again, when I'd already turned back out of the woods down tar country roads and had given up on seeing anything more than the odd cat in the field, but had stolen down one more dirt-road shortcut - there were yet two more deer! By now of course, I couldnt repress a kind of, "OK, you're overdoing it now" reaction - as in, oh come on, if you're gonna be suddenly everpresent its not all so special anymore, is it!? But still they were cute, hopping like rabbits across the road in front of me, off into the shrubbery ...

Also saw six bunnies. Together, evenly spaced down a stretch of road, like they were standing guard.

the neighbour's dog ... she is an older lady (the dog) and when she saw me planning to settle down on the patio, she started barking at her owner. she knows that we always have a box of dogtreats in the house (for bailey and cleo). she is not allowed to cross the street alone, so she made her owner get up from her chair and take ALIE across the street to get her treat. turned out that mrs. h also came out and the visit paid of in plenty of treats. smart dog ! hbg
