Shewolf, it was not my intention to prove anything about who is right or wrong even though this has turned ugly, sorry.

Are we reading the same thread? I don't see anything ugly. I see a bit of confusion about what you are asking here.
Quote:
Is there such an animal as a Christian Democrat?
By capitalizing "C" and "D" you seem to be making a title of the 2 nouns... Confused Which led me to conclude that you were asking about a legitimate party rather than adjectives which could describe any poster... as I thought when I originally read your first post in this thread... And I found a link to a site about starting a 3rd party in the United States, the Christian Democrat Party... (but that wasn't what you were asking about, or was it? Confused) And there seems to be general confusion about whether by "shouting out" you wanted christians who are also democrats to declare themselves... and you have about a dozen who have + edgar's and soz's friends and neighbors all of whom are both christians and democrats... Confused

Maybe you should clarify what it was you were asking in the original OP... Idea Did you have some agenda you were projecting? Some theory you wanted proven? Or were you asking how many of us are both christians and democrats? And if so, why not similar posts to count christian republicans and atheist dems/reps, etc., etc. Question

If you want a thread to count Christian Republicans or any other group go for it. I only asked the question to prove something for myself, sorry that the wording was not up to your standards. As far as peoples friends and neighbors as soon as they post I will count them.

I'm curious. What is it that you wish to prove for yourself? Maybe we can help you.

You should probably stop all the subtle insults then.

Princess, it seems to me that most churches (I know that this will cause an uproar) at least in my area have a body of mostly republicans. However this may not be the case in other places.
Smog how is my telling someone that I am sorry a "subtle insult"?

Ok about 80 views and 4 yes replies.... not looking too promising.

I was referring more to this phrase (and similar ones) and why your thread might be turning ugly. If you can't see what might be insulting about it, then I really have nothing else to add to this discussion. (HINT: Many devout Christians do not feel the need to justify their own beliefs to others, etc.)

In my opinion, if you are in a conservative congregation, the people there will more than likely tilt mostly right and as the Republican Party is usually the more palatable environment for conservatives, it would follow that the parishioners of that congregation would have more Republicans than Democrats.

However, I belong to a more liberal denomination and congregation and as nearly as I can tell, our demographics are about 50/50 Democrat/Republican.

If you go to a Unitarian Church or a United Church of Christ, it is almost a given that you will find far more Democrats than Republicans.

The Roman Catholic Churh and the other more heirarchal churches will have a good mix as form generally supercedes ideology in those denominations.

My guess is that it has more to do with your location. Southern Baptists tend very strongly Republican, but so does the South in general. You are in the Bible belt, yes?

They should. If you cannot justify your beliefs, they are false beliefs.

Of course, this calls in to question people's entire lives; they cannot logically support their beliefs, their reasoning for action, and therefore they turn really nasty and snippy when you question the idiotic rules they have been conditioned to live under.

Religion holds us back as a people; the sooner our society realizes this, the better.

These people are often able to justify but choose not to in such ridiculous situations as this thread.

There is a difference between "need" and "ability."

Freeduck I am in Atlanta, yes the bible belt, but that has not always been the case. However some of these replies have changed my view somewhat. As fas as my "getting ugly" reply I think that this thread has turned a lot different than I thought, I thought that yes and no replies would make up most of the posts....live and learn I guess. As fas as that goes too I still count over 500 views and less that a dozen yes replies.

Have you looked at other thread's numbers regarding views vs. replies? It's not exactly a scientific study you are doing.

Here's another 'yes' for you, why wouldn't there be able to be a christian democrat? Don't be silly.

If you want to know how religion holds us back as a people, you have to fully understand the answer to this question, Cannistershot:

What is the difference between spirituality and religion?

You never get "yes" and "no" answers when talking religion. First of all, that's no fun

Secondly, it's a complicated answer, especially in a political forum.
