I'll probably get in trouble with the PC police for this comment but: I thought you said you were a Republican?

Mary Cheney seems to be old news--now that Teresa Heinz has insulted half the females population along with Laura Bush.

Damn, that woman's a hazard to her husband's health.

Good medicine !

They both exude an excessive preoccupation with self. I doubt they are aware how off-putting it is for discerning observers. (At least those whose perceptions are not clouded by ABB frenzy.)

They believe their views are supported by the morality of political correctitude and the attandant justification of any means at hand to advance the interests of a "protected" class of people.

You, on the other hand were merely voicing offense at the tasteless and inconsiderate exploitation of the persons and privacy of the family of the opposing political candidate for personal gain.

There is, of course no comparison. Conventional restraints do not apply to Democrats in pursuit of the interests of their single issue constituencies of zealots.

What is this, george? A paste from Bill Bennett's "Moral Inconsistency...Jumping Jesus, It's All Around You...Wanna Bet!"

"Moral correctitude" is a silly undiscerning notion, applicable anywhere and effectively meaningless except as thoughtless coded derogation. Liberals, Christians, Gays, Conservatives, Irish cross-dressers...pick your justly burdened beast and toss a glib curse at his defenders.

Or alternatively, it could just be that both O'Bill and some of us merely honestly and instinctively spoke about what we personally felt and thought when we saw Kerry say that, and then saw the media outrage break.

But yeah, no, you're right - it's probably that O'Bill expressed the obvious and decent and stood up for what was right, while all the rest of us are mere victims (or perpetrators?) of the PC police, driven by cynical group/party interest.

Must ... not ... use ... rolling eyes ... smiley ... must ... not ...

I said "political correctitude", not moral. It was instead a very thoughtful, uncoded derogation. Besides I have grown to like the phrase. You inspired it !

Please don't mix Irish cross dressers with liberals. Those are fighting words!

(Dunno if you saw but this thread got me the lowest of most anything, politics-wise... decided to try to stay away from it.)

Wow. The beat goes on, I see LOL. Who'da thunk it?

LOL 47 pages. Oh well, there's still more than a week for either side to stick their feet in their mouths and they're both doing plenty of talking.

In the meantime, what a coincidence, huh? If the Astros win tonight? Texas/Massachusetts LOL. When would the first WS game be I wonder?

I just realized that myself. What a bizarre coincidence having Houston and Boston in the WS. It's like when the Patriots won the Superbowl after 9/11.

I'm not up on the schedule -- which would come first? (WS or election?)

I already was, but now I'm REALLY gonna root for the Red Sox... :-D

(Among other things, it'll make good Kerry photo ops.)

(Oh god Kerry IS getting some Red Sox photo ops isn't he? He can't let that one pass by!!!)

Considering Kerry got booed off the field last time he got aphoto op--he better find something else to do--like muzzle that insulting wife of his.

'Course, I don't think he could take her.

Meanwhile, on the topic of offending both gays and sizable shares of America's female population, meet ... the GOP Senate candidate from SC:

Quote:
S.C. GOP Nominee Regrets Remarks
Gays, Single Moms as Teachers Faulted

By Charles Babington
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, October 18, 2004; Page A06

The Republican nominee in South Carolina's hard-fought U.S. Senate race apologized yesterday for saying gays and unmarried mothers should not teach in public schools, but he stopped short of retracting the statements.

Jim DeMint said he regretted the comments, made in a recent debate, because they distracted voters from "real issues" such as jobs and national security. Repeatedly asked on NBC's "Meet the Press" whether gays and single mothers should qualify as teachers, DeMint said local school boards should decide. [..]

Regarding abortion, DeMint said he would outlaw the procedure under all circumstances, including rape and incest. He declined to say whether the mother, father or doctor should be prosecuted if an abortion is performed. "We'll just have to decide that," he said. [..]

Russert aired a recent debate clip in which DeMint said, "If a person is a practicing homosexual, they should not be teaching in our schools." DeMint later said he felt the same "if a single woman who is pregnant and living with her boyfriend should be hired to teach my third-grade children."

DeMint apologized yesterday for the remarks because they "distracted from the real debate." He repeatedly declined to address the remarks' substance, saying local school boards should decide who teaches.

Sure glad that ain't my party ...

He's still comfortably ahead in the polls ... he is standing in South Carolina, after all ... and for the GOP.

His Democratic rival, Ms. Tenenbaum, has staked out positions on these scores that are most clearly different.
