I don't believe I have ever seen a personal attack from Hawkeye. He expresses his ideas and he defends them.
Hawkeye engages in personal attacks all the time. He's doing it right now in another thread on this board, on essentially this same topic.
He just made this comment to jcboy:
He then made this comment to bobsal u1553115:
Hawkeye is not only not an example of respect and civility in discourse, he is constantly denigrating other posters whether on a directly personal level, as the above examples illustrate, or indirectly by his often offensive and bigoted language choices (his calling people "cunts" "niggers" "fags", etc.), or his inaccurate negative stereotyping of groups, which insults, quite gratuitously, many posters who happen to be gay, people of color, or female, and offhand, I can't think of any other posters at A2K who constantly refer to others by using these types of offensive slurs and stereotypes. Hawkeye relishes his meanness in that regard, he likes to shove it in people's faces, it's part of what he sees as his freedom to express himself, regardless of who it hurts--this is all about his particular style of masculine swaggering, and his personal need to express his aggression and contempt for those who don't share or support his views.
Hawkeye is one of the least tolerant posters around A2K, and his essentially contemptuous attitudes provoke other posters into responding with their own attacks. He's set and continued a negative tone that has corroded the quality and level of discussion at this site as surely as if it was being affected by a disease.
Why you feel the need to set up some sort of dichotomy, or needless comparison, between Hawkeye and izzythepush is not really clear, but in doing so you are contributing to the personal nastiness and interpersonal conflicts on this site. Is this your underhanded way of stirring up more dissension between posters, while appearing to be "civil" and ostensibly keeping your own hands clean?
Quote:The way to fix this is to have a number of people who encourage good behavior and diverse opinions and stand up to uncivil behavior even from people they agree with.
For someone who bemoans nastiness and name-calling and lack of civility you certainly let it flourish rather blatantly all around you, since you were nowhere to be heard voicing opposition when nononono was effectively trashing this site with numerous personal attack/rant threads and numerous offensive personal attacks/rants in other threads, including threads you were otherwise involved in---rants that had no rational basis in a difference of ideas, but rather were based on nononono's emotional intolerance for any criticism of his views, and their often flagrant distortions, and his excessive need to aggressively personally attack and demean others who didn't support him, or that he just didn't like, often completely disrupting a thread in the process. Why weren't you standing up to this uncivil behavior--why weren't you practicing what you preach?
As long as nononono seemed to be supporting men's rights, and attacking feminism, positions you basically agree with, you apparently didn't care what sort of disruptive havoc he created or the personal meanness he generated and fostered on this site. And that's true in the case of Hawkeye as well--you fail to see his meanness, and his contempt for others, or you deny it, because you feel a similar kinship with him on the issue of women/feminism. So, when you talk about standing up to uncivil behavior, I find you to be blatantly hypocritical and quite phony.
It's not only gotten meaner around here, it's also gotten very boring and repetitious. Even you keep starting more threads on the same issues. This current thread, for instance, is another rehash of this one of yours...

Just admonishing posters to "play nicely" with each other, which is your current goody-two shoes mantra, won't help to improve anything. We have very few people left here with anything new or fresh in the way of ideas to discuss, and too many who simply want a platform for their preconceived positions rather than a real interchange of ideas, so we get people divided into camps, and reiterating entrenched opinions, without much intellectual movement, insight, or gain in the discussions. Unless the site manages to attract more new blood, more interested in gaining understanding than winning an argument, or a pissing contest, I see a downward slide of A2K continuing to get worse because the positive sense of community, which was the glue that originally held this place together, is almost gone now, and I can't see it likely to re-bloom any time soon. When people stop being a community, and stop essentially caring about each other, is when they start getting meaner, and that's the unfortunate transformation I've seen going on at A2K.
