@firefly,
http://www1.salary.com/police-officer-salary.html

This chart describes the expected percentage of people who perform the job of Police Patrol Officer in the United States that make less than that annual salary. For example the median expected annual pay for a typical Police Patrol Officer in the United States is $52,056 so 50% of the people who perform the job of Police Patrol Officer in the United Sates are expected to make less than $52,056.

Source: HR Reported data as of August 2014

IDK, but I do know that a new officer in Olympia wa where I live makes $69K, can count on at least another $20k in overtime and also gets a juicy benefits package. The Chief makes $156K.

However much they make...a cop's job is a difficult and often a very dangerous one.

It still appears to me that the amount of force used in this instance was excessive.

We may get a better picture of whether that is so or not when more information becomes available...which, if there is an indictment, could take until a trial convenes.

We do not know the circumstances of the encounter, David. You are assuming that Brown was pounding on Wilson. It is not beyond the realm of reason that Brown was merely defending against Wilson's initial physical aggression. The have been statements made that indicate the initial physical contact WAS initiated by Wilson...reaching through the open window of the police car and grabbing onto Brown.

And there have been statements made that Brown initially tried to run away.

The amount of force used in this incident APPEARS TO ME to be excessive.

And the fact that you asserted (both here and in the Trayvon Martin case) that the world was better off with the young black male dead...indicates to me that you are way off base on the issue.

How long do you think Brown's arms were? There was no powder residue on his body so he was at least 5 feet from Wilson.

Even the police is not claiming that Brown was pounding on Wilson when Wilson killed him. If Brown was fighting for Wilson's gun as the police claims, and if Wilson had killed Brown during that fight, that would have been a justifiable use of deadly force. But with Brown unarmed in a 20-foot distance? Wilson could have used a taser there, but chose not to. A headache does not establish a reasonable fear for one's life.

Whether u like it or disapprove,
the FACT remains that Martin will not be slamming any more guys'
heads on the street, and Brown will fx no more eye sockets,
rob people of their cigars (except maybe on Halloween).

I celebrate our better safety.

If 6' 4" Brown were charging at Wilson,
he had reasonable apprehension of danger
and he needed to nullify that threat. He did.

He knew that obviously, his decisions woud be exposed to scrutiny.
I doubt that he chose to knowingly throw his un-blemished career
in the garbage. In a self defense situation, it is IMPERATIVE that
the victim act while he still has time to do so.

U bet your life !

What you have said with regard to the world being a better place with those two young men dead...

...is beyond despicable. You ought to be ashamed for saying such things, David, but for some reason, you are blind to how disgusting it is.

In this post David is correct...with the caveat that if what happened before Brown started to flee was that there was an assaualt on an officer and an attempt to get his gun. With the gun already out he would NOT have then switched to a Taser...bad tatics like that will get you killed. At this point when ordered to "freeze" if brown charged the officer, shooting him would be jusified. He should have heeded his fathers advice and complied with the officers instructions.

@OmSigDAVID,
I think Im gonna wait till the full report of the investigation is vailble. Whats obvious here is that many of you are BULLHIT LYING about what you know--Face it, you know NOTHING of FACT about the occurrence except for what you re pulling out of your ass. All this about "blunts" and "broken eye sockets" and who knew what when is all , at best , hearsay. AT worst , its plain bullshit.

@farmerman,
ANYONE who believes that he stole a box of cigarillos for any other reason than to make blunts is at best naive and at worst an idiot. (Unless of course there is a girl out ther who has not come forward who had just given birth to his kid.)
