@TyrionGuy,
It's up to him whether he has hope or not.

I'm not buying that she is responsible for his hopes - especially after she has told him multiple times this year that she's not interested in him as a boyfriend.

Sometimes sex is sex. Nothing more.

@ehBeth,
well, not to him in this case...

hopes are hopes, but she took advantage of him in this case. for her it maybe was only sex, for him it was a loving experience, that left him even more in love with her... She told him she didn't want anything to do with him, so why have sex with him?? She could get it from anyone else then, not from her friend who she knows is not in good shape (mentally I mean)....

What did she think would be the outcome of this? All of the sudden after having sex with the girl he loves, he would fall completely out of love?

I think not

That's very Christian of you Beth I must say.

And how do you know what she wants? She probably doesn't know herself.

That's a terrible thing for a woman to say.

In the event that the possibility of conception is excluded it is a semantic stretch to call it sex at all.

@spendius,
Sometimes sex is nothing more than sex. Not sure why you didn't learn that growing up. You don't have to like it. It's just one of those basic facts.

@DownNtOut,
Maybe she hoped that you finally understood after she'd told you several times - she doesn't want you as a boyfriend.

So - the festival. Maybe she told you in hopes that you'd cancel your attendance. Maybe she told you so you won't rush up to greet her. Maybe she told you so you'd know she (a friend of yours) would be there.

Don't read anything into it.

She told you she'd be there.

End of message.

The message is that she'll be at the festival.

@DownNtOut,
You have to decide if you can handle being a friend - and only a friend.

If you can't, then stay away from her. It's healthier for you especially if you can't emotionally cope with sex as sex only.

An evasion Beth. You are supposed, after blurting that, to gather up your folders, storm out of the door and allow your thrumming footsteps to fade away down the corridor and to be imperiously indifferent to the rolling eyes of those still at the table.

Then why are women much more fastidious about who they choose than men are? And are particularly cruel in the exercise of the power.

It might well have been izzy. He eventually apologised because he felt it too difficult to explain the difference to a nation. "I did not have sex with that woman" was understood by me the first time I saw it quoted. He's a Rhodes scholar.

He did not have sex with her. There were to be no rivals to Hilary's progeny.
