Hey, I've recruited my brother to join our little game. I hate to ask, but any way I can get traded and put on a team with him? If not, that is cool too. He is having to sign up on the site so I am not yet sure of his username. But he will probably make his picks this without too much delay.

so how many people are in this thing? Looking forward to this as it was somewhat of a family tradition back when coastalrat and myself were growing up.

That doesn't include the player named coin-toss, who is, as the name says, someone who tosses a coin, heads or tails, to see if pure chance will win out over us Real Players. Sometimes John asks one of us to do that - memories of trying to find a coin somewhere in my bedroom, failing (where the hell is it?), and using another coin. I think that was the time I was using italian lire for the fun of it. Of course, chance may not be so pure as there is the added element of coin tossing technique. Some of us are worse than others at flipping.

We are indeed up to 18 players this season which is our 10th year. We started with perhaps five players. A couple of years ago the stars aligned and we got about 24.
The overall goal is for a player to end the season with the best record of correct picks. We do recognize weekly winners.
This year I have added a wrinkle: team play. The 18 players have been split into 6 teams of 3. You are on a team with CoastalRat and MizCowdoc from Salmon, Idaho. The idea is still evolving, which is a polite way of saying that I am still making things up as I go. I tend to do that sometimes.
The important thing to remember to choose winners in ALL of the week's games prior to the start of the FIRST game - usually on Thursday.
The season starts tonight. I'll be back shortly with a review of how we split in our picks.

This week I am rating one game (Cincinnati @ Chicago) as a tossup. We split 9-9. The NYGiants @ Dallas game is close, 10-8 in favor of the Giants. At the other extreme...we all have Indy over Oakland and only JPB thinks Buffalo will win versus New England. Rhys and Jespah think Tennessee will prevail over Pittsburgh.
Kolyo wins the congeniality prize. He agrees with the majority on all of the 15 non-tossups. EhBeth and Ragman are off on just one game while Johnboy, Cowdoc and Andy are out of step on two. JPB's strategy of picking the home teams left her differing from the majority on 7 games. Jespah and CoinToss are off by 6.
Overall, the 18 player made picks in 16 games. 288 picks in all. We split 222-66 which is a 77% rate of agreement. That is on the high side historically, I think.
