The NFL season kicks off on Sept 10th. For some 17 weeks folks will gather around the water coolers in their offices and rehash the games from Sunday.
You, yes you, will stand there with a sh*t-eating frozen grin, unable to say anything remotely intelligent.
We are here to help you!
For the 6th season, I say for the 6th season, you can painlessly get involved in the NFL by predicting the winners of each week's games. It will take about 5 minutes a week. Right here on A2K. No need to register on Yahoo Sports or ESPN. Right here. How easy is that?
How does it work?
Each week, on Tuesdays, the schedule will be posted. It might read:
Washington Redskins @ Atlanta Falcons
NY Giants @ Detroit Lions
etc through about 16 games.
All you have to do is post a response on A2K with your picks:
Skins
Lions
Some stuff goes on at the end with regard to tiebreakers, but it is not at all cumbersome, I assure you.
There are a few rules, mostly about getting picks in on time, but they have been frequently waived. No one takes this game too seriously.
In between the picking and the games, there often is idle chatter. We have talked about belly dancing (from Canada) and inserting an arm into a cow (from a large animal vet).
22 players last year, 6 the 1st.
Let me know if you are interested so I can assign you a column in the score card.
I pick Houston, Pitsburgh and Washington.
@edgarblythe,
Edgar gets slot #1. The post position.

I won't come in last this year. I expect to move up to second to last.
Not if I have anything to say about it. I'm coveting the second to ask spot (penultimate, as it were).
@realjohnboy,
rjb, would you kindly slot me in @ #27, thanx...
I would like to play again this year. Thanks, rjb!
Yep. That time of year again.
Lucky # 16, thanx verra muchly
@George,
I sent emails to the folks in our Fantasy Football League. I got a reply from your son, George. He assumes it is another game on Yahoo. I recalled that he doesn't hang out on A2K. He is certainly welcome to play. I reckon he would have to relay his picks through you.
@realjohnboy,
Actually, we have been playing this at my house as well. Whenever the new
list comes out, I print it out and bring it home. Then Clive and The Lovely
Bride make their picks .
8 folks in so far:
Edgar, Jespah, Region Philbis, Wandeljw, McGentrix, Ehbeth, George and Johnboy.
I went through last year's game and identified at least 8 or 10 more.
New players are truly welcome to join us.
A lot more than 8 or 10: people who have played last year or so -
Osso, Rockhead, JPB, Tico, Liontamerx, Fox, ElStud, Ragman, Imur, Fbaezer, Cowdoc, Ms Cowdoc, Alex, Mysteryman, Maporsche, Sublime...
Some of them wandered off.
THIS USED CAR IS A REAL CREAMPUFF...SAID THE SALESMAN
So this is our 6th season. Kickycan started it but had to bow out early in the season. I took it over. I managed to convince JPB to run it in year #4. She is still not talking to me.
If there is anyone out there who needs an unpaid job, you are more then welcome to take this over this year.
The posting of the schedules, the recording of picks & all the other "stats" stuff takes about 3 hours a week (Tuesday & Sunday/Monday). The other part of the job, nagging laggards and writing narrative takes another hour or so. I am quite confident that my style of writing and my sense of humor may be wearing thin.
I would be more than willing to have someone else take over.
All right, I'm in.
And I expect to come in no worst then 1st place at the end of the season.
So, even if I dont, I demand that I still be named the winner.
@realjohnboy,
I could mebbe help with some nagging, but my stats abilities are pretty much used up with reporting the rainforest numbers on an (almost) daily basis. Danon has to do the actual number crunching.
Liontamerx (whom I haven't seen around A2K for awhile) and Mysteryman from KY go into slots 9 and 10.

I used to have Mike/Sublime's home phone number.
Nag anyone else on the list above.
