Anyway, ...no, I think what JTT described was a posture on your back. Bringing the feet up and holding them as close to your core as you can while you exhale. It seems to me to be more of a groin stretch that anything else.

Nope, Joe, no bringing the feet up. Your feet stay glued to the bed or floor or matt. Smile

Your toes are only pointed towards your eyebrows, belly button, nose, ... . The reaching, the trying to touch your nose, eyebrows, belly button, was figurative.

By doing what I described, you quickly stretch out the cramping calf muscles and any other upper leg muscles that are also cramping up.

@Joe Nation,
Yes. Competitive yoga is being championed by Bikram Choudhury. The pillar of enlightenment who has brought us such gems as:

On compassion:
Bikram wrote:
I always forgave my students, like Jesus, but I reached a point where I have to protect my regular legal schools.

(He is the only "guru" ever to sue his students for teaching.)
On authority:
Bikram wrote:
Lady Gaga listens to me, her mantra is only one word — Bikram — because Bikram makes her what she is today. It works.
Advice for women practicing yoga:
Bikram wrote:
Don’t get married. Don’t even take a chance. If you make water like this and get married, your marriage will not last three weeks. You should not learn yoga, learn how to cook! You know why women get divorced in America? Why you guys get divorced in the western world and, in India, no divorce? From 10 years old, mothers teach their daughters how to cook. You are the lousiest cooks in the world.
Why men should practice yoga:
Bikram wrote:
Because I have balls like atom bombs, two of them, 100 megatons each. Nobody fucks with me.

On community (sanga):
Bikram wrote:
I kind of run this city (Hollywood). They depend on me.
Regarding students listening to other yoga teachers:
Bikram wrote:
You cannot be a ******* prostitute. You cannot have your feet in two holes.
On why he should sleep with his students:
Bikram wrote:
What happens when they say they will commit suicide unless you sleep with them? What am I supposed to do? Sometimes having an affair is the only way to save someone’s life.
But he makes it all better with this explanation:
Bikram wrote:
Because I'm a sweet, kind guy, everybody thinks I'm an idiot, I'm weak. Now I have to protect my franchising. If I don't, nobody will buy my franchising anymore.

Pointing fingers, Matt, you should not.

Just look at this gem that you have brought us.

Quote:
The word "well" should be used as an adverb form of the adjective "good".

How are you doing?

I am doing well. [means that the "doing" was done well]
Non-literally, something like: My actions are going without complication.

I am doing good. [means that the noun "good" is being done]
Non-literally, something like: I perform actions whose consequences are good.

We arrive at the second "translation" by virtue of knowing the prescriptivist rule. We know that "good" is not being used as an adverb, so it must be a noun in the sentence. It must mean "a good".

http://able2know.org/topic/208852-14#post-5263769

Then, when your ignorance was pointed up, you shot off on a silly tangent to avoid dealing with it. Yet here you are on a "philosophy" thread, discussing things like morality, honesty, and probably the most hypocritical of all from you, you demand that others get up to speed in order to participate.

Hmmm. We could have Sprints (faster shut down of Theta Waves!)

Maybe there could be extra points given for radical patterns!

@Joe Nation,
Glad to hear that you seem to be doing better in the injury department.

I like the idea of "radical patterns".
How about Theta Wave art?
Neurological activity as the artistic media.
Hmmm indeed.
As always, I suppose, beauty would be in the eye of the beholder.
Would it be narcissistic to prefer your own Theta Wave art?

@ossobuco,
It may reveal my bias as a philosophical realist (the silly old notion of thinking that there is something "real").
I am a bit of a pariah among the current trend in philosophy for such a transgression. Wink

isn't that non-buddhist? Well, what do I know..

reality is my drug, more or less.

@ossobuco,
I don't want to talk out of school...
but 'Buddhism' can be a bit of a Rorschach test for philosophers.
One will see what one wants/expects to see.
I would not label myself a Buddhist regardless, that is certainly not a way of transcending tribalism.

I wouldn't view reality as a drug.
I wouldn't encourage you to kick the habit even if it were.

What about me? wah.
Did I mention I am helping to move my girlfriend from her current place to a new apartment?
If given the choice between moving a girlfriend from her current place to a new apartment and, I don't know, the DEATH OF 1000 CUTS,,,,choose the one that will be less painful.
All's well, although there was some broken glassware that I feel awful about and she cut herself AND got a splinter in her pretty little finger....and I need a glass of wine to go with this whine.

Finished building a kitchen cart today,,,,okay, finished assembling a kitchen cart got all the cabinets measured for liners. Tomorrow I do the closet racks.
Knee still hurts like a son-of-a-bitch if I over do things.

Very odd sleeping pattern,,,,not happy about that,,,,managing.

@Joe Nation,
Geez, JoeN, we do appreciate you.

What wine, exactly?

I bought a kitchen cart from home debt when I first moved here. I cannot by myself put it together, the complete piece of ****, don't get me started, even though I built my own studio and have construction creds. That stuff doesn't hold, or at least my purchase didn't. I think the answer is to override their crap and use one's own items at hand.

I generally like daylight savings, being night blind, but even I, who likes it, get camfloogled with the change.
