We get the same movies, TV and video games over here. We've not had a school massacre since Dunblane when we tightened up our gun laws.

@raprap,
The 2nd Amendment folks seem eager to get rid of or change other Amendments, including the First, but also the Sixth. During the past ten years, the US Government beginning under Bush but continuing under Obama has increased the power of the investigative agencies to examine, without warrant, our emails, our letters, our buying habits and, if charged with some particular crime connected with terrorism, not be able to represented by consul nor to even face our accusers. No supporter of the 2nd amendment separates it from the rest of the US constitution.
Only anti-freedom, anti-American liberal folks do this.

Why do you hate the US Constitution other than the 2nd Amendment Waterdude? Why are you afraid of the Freedom of Speech?

Why do you hate nothing? What has "nothing" ever done to you to deserve scorn?

All supporters of the 2nd. are in the same bed imo.

Some, however, are taking advantage of the massacres to parade their own compassionate and caring side with disingenuous sentimentalities having no practical effect.

We in the UK have given up some of our rights to self defence in the hope that doing so will make self defence less necessary. Not unnecessary. We prefer a reduced chance of being shot to an increased chance. A free and democratic choice fully accepted by the vast bulk of our population.

For the gun toters to wrap themselves in the cloak of "freedom" when they are only half the population is baby talk because it is circular reasoning.

If the 2nd is inviolate the situation in the US will continue and possibly get worse.

m not convinced your comparison is valid because very few drivers deliberately kill people which is what shooters do.

Intend does not change the results and you are just as dead from an accident as by being murder.

Dead is dead my friend and most of us are not willing to reduce the speed of cars to 25 MPH to save tens of thousands of lives every year and gun owners are not willing to give up their constitution rights in an attempt to do the same so morally we are on the same plane.

Few driver act in a manner that add risk to the inherently danger of driving but some do and some even use their cars as lethal weapons however few of the 150 millions or so gun owners act in anyway that endanger anyone either.

All the guns that been in my family for generations had not harm anyone at all and yet I been in car accidents over the four plus decades of driving that had result in people being harm.

From my our personal history guns are completely safe and cars are not as a matter of fact.

Spendius has not been making a lot of sense lately, but here he made a point that everyone should consider.

Civilization...society...really is about giving up some rights in order for the civilization...for the society to function reasonably and safely.

Essentially each of us is born with the "right" to do whatever we want to do, within the limits of our physical and mental capabilities. Our "rights" are restricted by society and governments so that the society can function reasonably.

Being a good citizens involves allowing government to restrict our rights.

Something to consider.

@oralloy,
A screw driver can be used to drive a nail. The nail is just as solid as if driven with a hammer but no one would argue we would build as many houses if we used screw drivers instead of hammers.

The simple fact of the matter is other means of killing are not as effective. While the number of murder attempts may remain the same. The number that die will go down simply because of the lack of effectiveness of the tool used.

Sorry but giving up the right to have the means of defending both myself and my family if attacked by a criminal is not a price I am willing to even consider.

No matter what the laws happen to be any criminal that wished to be armed will be armed and damn if I see the need of the government to make their lives safer by disarming the citizens and turning all of us into helpless victims.
