We are no different than the countries that are so uncivil they carry guns in the streets. America to any outsider doesn't quite look like the safe place people try to paint of this country as peace and prosperity. It's beyond belief, this love affair with guns.

You'requite right, my daughter was planning on holidaying in Florida this summer. It's recently transpired that she will have to spend six weeks in China studying language prior to spending a year at a Chinese University.

I can't tell you how relieved I was when she told me.

Sorry an attacker by the very nature of being the attacker will be the one with his weapon ready before the one who is the target get to reacted to the attack that is already in progress.

No idea. Off hand I don't quite recognize it. It's probably something I should recognize on sight, but it's not ringing any bells.

In general, you can get an assault weapon for under a thousand dollars, but if you want greater precision it can go over $2000.

I don't.

No. The Taliban hate freedom almost as much as Barack Obama does.

Yes. That is true. But as the video shows a knife attacker from 15 feet away can be beaten by a person with a gun. You admit that a gun attacker from 15 feet away can never be defeated with a knife.

Since an attacker will have their weapon ready, which would you rather attack you from 15 feet away? Someone with a knife or someone with a gun?

Watch it again as the distance where the gun owner could not get a shot out before being knife were 16 feet in the video,

Most numbers I had hear given by self defense experts happen to be 15 feet.

For myself someone with a gun as a knife can block/counter knife attacks where in the gun holder only have one good chance of stopping the knife attack and he better hope like hell the one round he might be able to get off will stop the attacker otherwise the attacker might be wound but the gun owner will be dead.

Learning what it is like to be defeated will help him develop character. Maybe he'll be able to grow and become a decent person.

There won't be any civil war. Obama might break down blubbering in public about how horrible it is that Congress won't let him violate the Constitution, but the only result of that is that he'll look stupid.

@BillRM,
When someone runs at you full speed with a knife, a gun isn't your only possibility. That out of control the person can be sidestepped, disabled or otherwise deflected. It may not be the best choice, but I like my chances better that way then facing someone 15 feet away with a gun. If you feel a gun is easier to face, that just shows you out of touch with reality you are.

Why not just shut up and lets move on cause youre not doing a hellova job convincing anyone about anything here.

Nonsense. His argument is factual and to the point.

If people refuse to acknowledge reality, that is no reason he shouldn't stop pointing out that reality.

farmerman wrote:
Yes I can make explosives the explosives bullshit on the internet wont make you anything but a statistic if you carefully follow recipes. Whats the point of this anyway?? Im sane so I wouldnt think of bombing anything . The KILLINGS at schools is predominantly done by firearms and and all the street killings and drive bys also.

You'd rather people be lobbing IED's at each other??

No. The gun banners would rather people be lobbing IEDs at each other.

BillRM is saying that going that route would not actually make a better world.

Nobody wants to talk about it but there is a large faction of this country who is ripe to take Obama out. What the hell is wrong with this country, the racism and bigotry is brewing so ugly and not just being ramped up by churches, fox news, the NRA, feeding the people the info they need to ignite the hate. I'm no conspiracy theorist but this reeks of conspiracy.

West Point Military Study Warns Of ‘America’s Violent Far-Right’

Quote:
A study for the Combatting Terrorism Center, a think tank associated with the United States Military Academy at West Point, warns of the threat posed by rightwing extremists. It identifies the potential for violence in groups defined a “far-right,” and provides a “[C]onceptual foundation for understanding different far-right groups and then presents the empirical analysis of violent incidents to identify those perpetrating attacks.”

No, the only stupid argument is the one that suggests that we should get hysterical over deaths related to guns while not caring nearly as much about other deaths.

How many deaths occurred during the Olympic shooting competitions? Did the gold medal winners use their guns properly?

I guess the police don't have guns for the purpose of defending against people who attack them? The real purpose of their guns is so the police can carry out summary executions?

When an officer fires his weapon, he fires to kill.

Wrong. The police fire to stop. Killing is not the goal. That is why they stop firing when the hostile activity ends, even if the person they were shooting at is still alive.

parados wrote:

And what about Olympians? Do they fire to hit Olympic targets?

How many deaths did the latest gold medal winner cause?

Daily Beast is a pretty scummy publication. They support sending innocent people to prison.

In any case, there is nothing new about quislings who whine that "the Republicans need to stop supporting the Constitution".

The Republicans will continue to support the Constitution, and they will be just fine.
