Entirely predictable, and quite ironic.

I have never in 58 years of life owned a gun, but yesterday I ordered a shotgun online.

Why?

Because I have often thought of purchasing one for home protection, but now perceived that I could be wrong about my prediction on gun control legislation and should take the plunge.

I'm sure I'm not the only (soon to be) first time gun owner who has thought the same.

So who ever in power at the time can take anyone weapons aways from them by declaring they are too angry/hostile to have weapons without the need for them to break any law just exercising their first amendment rights in a manner the party then in power do not care for.

You will get a civil war for sure as it would be consider a coup in the work by a large fraction of the population the first step the disarming of anyone who dare to speak out again the government beside being unconstitutional on it face.

Sure.. because Obama is coming to take your guns and you need to be able to shoot the blue helmeted troops he is sending.

I never suggested anything of the sort. I merely expressed MY opinion about the kind of person I think should not own guns.

Could be...but I didn't suggest doing anything like that. What I did do was to ask you what YOUR opinion is about how hostile, angry, and aggressive a person would have to be before you think it might be inappropriate for that person to own weapons. (It had a question mark at the end the last time around.)

I'd still be interested in your answer to that question.

Frank, I hate to agree with bill, but he is correct.
If the simple rules of gun safety are followed, a firearm cannot hurt you.

Always assume a gun is loaded, unless you unload it and check it yourself.
NEVER leave a gun where children can get to it.
Never point it at anything or anyone you don't intend to shoot.

As long as those basic rules are followed, that will seriously reduce accidental shootings in this country.

Will there still be accidents?
Of course there will be, people are people after all.
But following those 3 simple rules will greatly reduce accidents.
