A gun dealer was just on our News grinning sheepishly and praising Mr Obarmy as the "greatest gun salesman in history".

Is he scared of the stuff we are seeing on here? And with four years to go.

That's no leader--that's somebody boarding and lodging in the WH.

We might be wimpy serfs and freedom haters but we wouldn't put up with that.

I heard yesterday that the NRA will pull out all stops to oppose any changes. And that it's the most powerful lobby group in DC. And that it has made major contributions to reps from both parties.

You know how the second amendment was aimed at preventing anti-democratic forces from taking over? It failed.

@H2O MAN,
Why are you lot so stupid as to be slagging off Mr Obarmy when he is doing exactly what you want? i.e. getting a lot more guns into circulation.

I gather from a top News story on CBS that the US has helped the French try deal with AQ in Mali by providing "some logistical support". Which could mean allowing a visiting French official to use a Pentagon phone once.

Hey hinge--you should read Veblen's Absentee Ownership about democratic forces being fermented in a barrel and stirred once every four years.

@Frank Apisa,
Come on the one step that would reduce the chance of such a sad happening in the future is added security including armed security in such places as schools.

I give the anti-guns nuts the credit to know that meaningless ban on one type of rifle is not going to do anything at all less alone going after video games and such.

Or that background checks are fine but as likely to stop someone from getting their hands of firearms as near zero in a nation with 300 millions such weapons in half the homes as the drug laws had stop drug addicts from buying drugs.

I had hear only one suggestion from the anti-guns nuts that might have a very tiny benefit IE smaller magazines however one it take roughly two seconds to change clips and there are going to be one hell of a lot of large magazines still out there for decades after such a ban.

I repeat: I am pretty sure that legislation intended to reduce the number of guns in public places will never impact significantly on the number of mass killings that happen in our country.

BUT I AM ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that increasing the number of guns in public places will INCREASE the number of mass killings...not decrease them.

I honestly do not understand the thought process that goes into: More guns will mean less shootings. Honestly! I think it is only an erroneous extension of the thoughts that cause gun owners to think having guns is going to make them safer...when we know that gun owners and their families are most often killed by their own guns.

Right now there are one million citizens in the state of Florida with the legal right to carry firearms around and that is roughly tens time the number of law enforcement agents in the state.

So in any public place there is a ten times better chance that there are an armed citizen then an off duty police officer to be in place to at least be able to attempt stopping a madman with a firearm shooting and killing people.

Strange I been around hundreds of people with guns in their homes and some who legally carry them for all my 64 years on this planet and the only death that I can remember date back to a suicide in 1958 using a shotgun.

Hell other then the one happening above I never even hear of anyone in my extend circle being harm by a firearm accident unless you count one gentleman during deer hunting season having the engine in his pick-up truck destroy.

Not sure of your point here, Bill, but there's also a ten times better chance that someone is going to get shot who would not get shot if all those guns were not around. Let me follow up on this thought when I reply to your next comment.

With all the respect in the world, Bill, that is strange indeed, because HUNDREDS of people WILL be killed accidentally in homes where guns are kept this year ( EVERY YEAR)...and THOUSANDS will be severely wounded. That is not something I am making up...it is a national statistic...and quite honestly, a national disgrace.

So my comment stands even if you personally do not have among your acquaintances any of the victims. The victims that you do not know matter.

I read that nearly 50% of US households have guns.

Which means that nearly 50% don't.

Are there any comparative murder rates for these two large groups?

Let see we are a nation of 300 millions with roughly half the homes having firearms and in the small towns I grow up in I would place that number one hell of a lot higher the half the homes.

So how many millionaire lottery winners a year are there in the nation or how many people are hit by lightening every year?

In the size country we happen to live in a thousand out of 300 millions is tiny and compare to other rare events both good and bad events.

Let see lighting hits in the US a year.......Average 62 deaths and 300 serously harm.

Roughly 300 million dollars lottery winners a year in the US.
