No they weren't. The only person who has been going on about stripping people naked is you. I have been following this story as you know and the only source of stripping people naked is you.

@izzythepush,
I'd drop this right now if I were you, Izzy. You don't stand a chance.

Dave has logically deduced, by consulting the stars and his morning pablum, that rioters have indeed been stripping people.

@JTT,
I know he's been going on about it, but I just thought it was part of his mind set. I've only just realised he thinks it actually happened. I have not heard any mention of this anywhere else at all. Not only is it raving, it's counter intuitive. Why would anybody stop looting brand-new designer clothing from a high street shop, to force a passer-by to strip naked? It's insane, which is probably why Dave thinks it's true. For someone who claims to be so logical, he's acting in a very emotional manner.

and the only source of stripping people naked is you.
Following the story very closely, were u????
Is THAT how well u attend to ALL of your work????
I have already posted a picture of the humiliation in question.

As I told u previously, I am trying (without much success)
to bring out the point that this misconduct is an affront to English dignity.
This shoud evoke an extremely brutal vengeance,
to vindicate your honor, but NOTHING is forthcoming.
U shoud all be very ashamed for tolerating that. (Its very unChurchill-like [tho Chamberlain woud approve].)
I imagine that socialism has engendered a spirit of docility
and toleration of ANY indignity, no matter how foul.
I was perplexed that u have not even ATTEMPTED to deny
that the English have sunk so low in spirit.
Now u deny that the offense happened at all.
(U put me in mind of an incident from my childhood:
my nabor, a Mexican boy, committed some outrageous acts
of endangering me and intentionally burning my dog, King,
for the pain of it. King cried out in alarm & pain. He laffed.
Eventually, I caught him; [we were the same age and size].

I was about to beat the hell out of him.
The first time that I hit him, he twisted such that I hardly touched
him at all, just a few ounces of pressure, but he began to cry
as if something horrible had happened, with such INTENSITY
that I did not have the heart to continue.
I let him get away with it.
A few weeks thereafter, he denied
that he had wept at all
during the incident.
Following in his footsteps, u now deny the injury to English dignity.)

I 'm not much of a researcher, but I 'll try to find
the accounts of this humiliation of the English
that thay so mildly accept.

OK, Izzy:
here r some pertinent links that I got from Google
on the disputed subject (since u tacitly imply that I am lying):
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2024001/UK-riots-2011-London-Birmingham-people-forced-strip-naked-street.html
(Please note the photograph, as supporting evidence; several of the news stories have used it.)

http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/london-rioters-strip-people-naked-to-rob-125484

There have been multiple stories in the news on the subject,
including this one:
http://www.metro.co.uk/news/871848-london-riots-thugs-force-people-to-strip-naked-to-steal-clothes#ixzz1VaumwKB5

"London riots: Thugs force people to strip naked to steal clothes
Thugs taking part in the London riots even forced people to strip naked
to steal the clothes off their back."

" Related Tags:LondonBirmingham.
Rumours on Twitter and other social media sites
last night suggested that people were being forced
to give up their clothes, and now shocking pictures
have emerged of a young man giving his jeans,
shoes and t-shirt to a looter.

It has also been suggested that people were being stripped naked
in Birmingham, where spates of violence also erupted last night,
although these reports are unsubstantiated.

The images were among a number of shocking pictures which
emerged following last night's riots, with another showing
a woman completely naked next to a police officer
,
having seemingly had her clothes stolen.

A disturbing video also shows an injured teenager being robbed
by a gang who pretended to help him up.

A number of areas in London were affected by the third consecutive night
of riots yesterday, with Clapham Junction, Croydon, Camden and
Brixton among the locations targeted.

In an attempt to keep the peace this evening, an unprecedented
16,000 police officers will take to the streets of London. Last night
there were just 6,000 on duty.

Prime minister David Cameron today spoke out against the
'sickening scenes of people looting, vandalising, thieving [and]
robbing' and warned that those taking part will face the 'full force of the law'."
[All emfasis has been added by David.]

Is that enuf, Izzy,
or do u require more????

How about U, JTT??
Is that enuf, or do u require MORE??

@Roberta,
Speaking of grammar, Gracie, Roberta is the grammar maven here, a long time major book editor. You might not guess, since she relaxes and talks plain here on A2k, a place for enjoyment for her, not a continuation of her work day. She has many past threads on grammatical usage (or whatever that phrase is). I once listed a bunch of them somewhere on a2k. I'll try to find the list and come back and post the links.

If I forget to do that, nag me, eh?

@OmSigDAVID,
First of all David I had only heard of this from you, I wasn't denying anything. This is only one article, The Daily Mail. The other two links are carbon copies of The Daily Mail article, the ndtv article quotes the Mail. The Metro article sounds just like the Daily Mail article. Note, The Metro is a free London only paper, handed out to commuters on the tube. It gets most of its news off the internet anyway.

So we're talking about The Daily Mail, a sensationalist far right rag that supported Hitler in the 1930s. If this did happen, I wouldn't put it past the Daily Mail to use an old library photo, or more likely, not check the legitimacy of a photo they were sent.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though, and say it did happen just as The Mail reported it. It's an isolated incident. Rumours on twitter are just that, rumours. The fact that no other news organisation chose to run with this shows how insignificant it was. The incident that has sparked the imagination of most normal people, is that of the young Malaysian student robbed by 'good samaritans.' That was disgusting enough, without going on about stripping naked.

Check your sources a bit more thoroughly next time Dave.

Nope, I've learned to trust your fair and honest appraisal on pretty much any topic, Dave.

Except English grammar and the rules of language. There, you've shown yourself to be dismal dismal dismal.

And did I mention dismal?

I'm tempted to post what I have in case I some how lose it all, but I don't have all in order yet, so it would only be confusing.

@GracieGirl,
Gracie,
I don t believe that I 've mentioned this to u,
but I have been supporting fonetic spelling;
i.e., spelling words the same way that thay sound
because that is short and ez.
(I believe that when school teachers tell
the students to spell the old, paradigmatic way,
thay r committing malpractice and professional negligence.)

For instance,
it is illogical and inefficient to spell the word tho
thoUGH; those last 3 letters do no good; wasted.
There is no logical place for any Ls in woud, coud nor shoud.
Ls don 't help anything in those words.
The sound of F shoud not be spelled ph; it is dum to do that.

I 'm trying to lead by example.
( However, I am not always consistent in doing that.
I have taken a liberal (deviant) vu about spelling.)

Haha! Thanks guys! And thanks ossobucco, it's really awesome that you'd find all those threads AND put them in order for me. That's soo nice of you and I really really appreciate it! @GracieGirl,
Gracie, I'm not a language genius. There are many people who know far more than I do. But I confess that I'm good at explaining things and making them clear. I think that's more where my expertise lies.

I'll be happy to help you if I can--when you need help.

Gracie, I offer these corrections in a spirit of helpfulness.
"Your" is possessive (like talking about your dog or your grades).

GracieGirl wrote:

Here's a tip:
the word "and" is a conjunction; (its to CONJOIN things together)
i.e., its like glue or Scotch Tape to attach a sentence fragment
to the rest of the sentence. For years and for CENTURIES people have been starting sentences with conjunctions,
but it is against logic to do that because if u do, the sentence becomes a SENTENCE FRAGMENT.

If u do it, u will probably be able to get away with it,
but it does not make u look like a logical person to do that.

I most respectfully suggest that u don 't start a sentence with "and" or "but".

I also most respectfully suggest, for your consideration,
that u take no advice from JTT because he is openly anti-logical,
but u must decide that for yourself, pro or con. That must be YOUR CHOICE one way or the other.

It shoud be: a lot (2 words).

For the most part: it is accurate logic,
because for the most part: English grammar is very logical (with some exceptions).

@OmSigDAVID,
No. I'm not interested in doing that. I don't lose stuff often.

I will put things into Mac Works once in a while, or in Mac Stickies, as placers, but mostly I avoid all that.

The information is still there, re Roberta's threads, if anyone here goes to search (see search in the upper right dark blue banner) and queries, say,
Fine- Tuning 24.

The only one I couldn't find was #10.
