@msolga,
Just woke up.

Happy Viola....but still with very sad ... Cc1.c.c1xc . C. C...Viola typing.....eye. She's a bit manic.

I'll let her have breakfast and do her ointment before wrestling with collar.

I have window winder guys coming this am, and have cancellations at work forbtoday....see how I go.

May be I'll do ointment first and distract her with food.

Doesn't sound like any of you have had a good time of it. Sending healing thoughts all around.

You get to have some breakfast too, right?

Viola is carrying on like a tiny kitten!!!! The pain affected her more than I realized. She can get the collar off in seconds flat....sigh.

@dlowan,
Dem PCs is good at getting stuff off them and getting out of stuff. You'd think they'd have come up with a collar for cats.

I used to walk my Miranda. I tried three harnesses and two collars before I found one she couldn't extricate herself from.

Feel better, kid.

@margo,
It's ok. I replaced the Valium the kittens hid and used it.....helps the neck spasms....and we all had a sleep.

I'm pairing Violas three ointment in the eye assaults with a treat immediately after. I'll grind up vitamin C and put it in yogurt for her night ointment treat.....hopefully that will hide the acidic taste. How the hell much vitamin C do you give a 3.4 K kitten? Vet didn't say!

@dlowan,
Sebastian feeling a bit put out by the extra attention Viola is getting!

I told him I could wrap him and put yucky stuff in HIS eye, too, if he liked.

He shows it, not, happily, by being aggressive to Viola, but by crying when I pay attention to her.

I woke early and had Sebastian on one side and Viola on the other. Viola wanted to play pounce on my hand under the towel (they sleep on a towel on my bed) and Sebastian mewed sadly whenever she pounced. I felt like a tennis spectator as I tried to even out the attention.

V opening her eye more but I can still see the damn ulcer. God it looks sore...poor little thing.

Got some vitamin C into her...and him...in yogurt....

Almost time for the next unreasonable assault upon her eye.

Sigh.

@Roberta,
Not sure....they're supposed to call me.

Actually, it was so frantic at work today my mobile could have rung and I'd not have heard it. hope it's soon!

Viola burst into the room just as I read your inquiry after her, started chatting loudly and had a major love in with me, then scurried out to eat more dinner. Her bad eye is more open and she seems pretty lively. We are in dim out for her, so it could be just less glare, but I hope not. I feel bad because I can't keep the collar on, but I'm getting the ointment in!

@dlowan,
Reading along and so sorry for your pain.

Wondering if this collar would help little Viola:

http://www.petsplus.com.au/pet-shop.asp?id=1100

Maxie-dog had four knee surgeries last year and one abdominal surgery this year and could not tolerate the "lampshade" collar at all. The vet then offered this one. He managed that much better. He could eat, he could see and he could sleep.

@dlowan,
Hey, Deb. Maybe you should mention the collar problem to the vet. He might be able to give you something else or offer some advice.

If you already asked, sorry I brung it up.

How you feeling?

@Roberta,
Their response was simply that if they can keep collars on difficult cats, so can I. I can't even FIND the collar at present!

I'm ok. Finally got into dentist! Expected to have one of the teeth....the broken crown...extracted....but they just ground it down so it stopped lacerating my tongue, and put a filling back in the other where it had come out.

Neck not too bad right now.

I think violas ulcer is smaller, and she has eye open enough to see the damn thing now. I'm about to zap it with ointment again and give her her vitamin C.

Sebastian is driving me nuts. I'm no fun, he says, cos I'm sleeping too much!

@dlowan,
Here's a better photo, showing the inflatable collar on a kitty.

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=19210

We turned the collar around the other way, so that the velcro strapping was at the back of his neck and it kept his head elevated. I think it would stop her from reaching her eye with her paws. I did come across this review written by someone who bought one for a chihuahua with an eye injury:

"Great for eye injury
PostedMay 30, 2011

I have a 4.5 lb chihuahua who has an eye injury and I wasn't sure if this collar would work for him. I was afraid it would be too bulky for his small body and that it wouldn't prevent him from rubbing his eye with his paw. I'm happy to report that so far it is working great! He seems much more comfortable, and his eye is safe from his paws. With the traditional plastic cone collar, he had figured out how to rub his eye by leaning down toward the ground and rubbing his face on the inside of the cone. With this inflatable collar, he can't rub his eye with his paw or on the ground, but he is able to walk around and eat much easier (I boost his food bowl up a little higher). I was skeptical at first, but now I'm so pleased I bought this for him!"

@mckenzie,
Hmmmm.....wish I could find it here in Adelaide, not on net.

It'll take a while to arrive.

Thanks Mac!

I'm damned if I think she IS rubbing her eye, but they insist that she will be.

She's seeing vet tonight so I'll see if her recovery is proceeding as it should.
